It will all depend on where the Leafs are in the standings at the trade deadline. Although there is no room for MacArthur right now, playoffs will have injuries and he would be great to move into a spot left open due to an injury. He adds great depth.
I honestly see no advantage to move Gunarsson for a 2nd round pick because the chances of drafting a player in the second round as good as him are minimal. If you think he will want big money to re-sign…that’s a different story.

I wouldn’t trade Dion for Stastny, but there are players I would move him for.

I’m saying we should trade MacArthur and gunnarson for high picks for two reasons, maybe we hit a solid prospect in the second round or late first and to create cap room to be able to out bid other teams for perry.. Say we don’t get anybody with those pics.. It’d be MacArthur gunnarson colborne bozak and a second for oreilly Corey perry and a 5th rounder.. That’s a whole different story cause without the cap space that deal doesn’t happen

Defence like him are hard to find.

Much harder than soft, disinterested centres like Stastny.

I think i’d rather bring back Well-Fed than the guy who couldn’t carry his dad’s hockey stick.

I agree SL. Although I am not always thrilled with his game, the last 2-3 games he has been very ggod. I hope Phaneuf keeps it up. I don’t think he is a $6.5 mil defencemen…more like a $5-$5.75 but if he can keep playing the way he has over the past couple of games, he is an asset to the team.
As for trading him, exactly, we need to get back something we “need”.

crowded with Fraser, Kostka, and Holzer… while nice young 3rd pairing pieces, they do not bring 25+ minutes a night, every night. If we are trading Phaneuf we need to get the 1st line center we are missing or a D-man to replace those minutes (pointless deal). For me the minimum return would have to be:

Phaneuf, small piece(s)

for:

Stastny level center or better.

There are not many Kessel’s in the league, he is a keeper I say give him what he wants as our way of saying thanks for putting up with the crappy team he had to play on, though for the first time Kessel is back checking beautifully I think JVR makes that line tougher.

As for Phaneuf, There are a lot of d-men in the league that can replace him. I say trade him. He’s not worth the money and our defence is getting dangerously crowded.

Like i said, Reilly and the 1st along with Gardiner are as close to untouchable as possible.

Though i did float possibly Gardiner for Myers option. The age and potential of Myers, very much along the same lines as JG as well as having Reilly in the fold, a Gardineresque defenceman, is something I’d do.

I again put O’Reilly along with Kulemin. At that level. I’d rather have the big O, many prefer Kuly. I think though O has more upside and i guess i am partial to an Ontario guy. But I dunno if i’d move any one of the 3 main assets for him.

I think Myers is a special player, hence Gardiner for example. I think O’Reilly is a really really good player, but I don’t put him in the special category.
