The Wings dont want Christian Backman even thou he is Sweedish…..I think he is from the crappier side of Sweeden where the B-rate players are produced…Backman wouldnt even crack the Redwings lineup…maybe behind Derek Meech and Kyle Quincey would Backman see action as a Wing….Backman to the Wings would be as significant as Cory Cross was…my bad i wouldn't trade Cross for Backman, atleast Cross played for cheap

If the Blues got an offer of Georges and a 2nd for Backman's contract, they would likely take it.

Why do people think Backman is a gritty player?? He's not.

In all fairness, and I barely defend the Leafs, my article DID ask what your team would give up for him… then again, the previous poster chose to throw him in a package for Sundin… kinda negating the whole purpose. and his trade was ridiculous as well.

WELL SAID. With all the dumb proposals ive been seeing lately from the laffs fans i wouldn t be surprised that they write sundin raycroft and ian white for lecavalier kari ramo and dan boyle oh and tampa adds a first round pick and a second round pick. lol dumb laffs fans

As a Habs fan, I'd love to see Backman's gritty play on Montreal's D. Question is, what to give up? The Habs D has the likes of Markov, Komisarek, Hamrlik, O'Byrne, Bouillon, Streit, Dandenault, Brisebois and Gorges.

I'd offer the Blues Gorges(smallest Habs D contract) and a 2nd Rounder for Backman and if they did in fact take it, I'd then shop Bouillon around for a 4th Round pick because with Backman he's no longer needed.

I'd then fulfill Dandenault's apparent request to be traded to open another roster spot for O'Byrne's return. I'd want a 4th Rounder though I'd try for a 3rd.

Then Montreal's D would look something like this:

Markov-Komisarek
Hamrlik-O'Byrne
Streit-Backman
Brisebois
