you pretty much have to keep him now. Calgary is going with a win now strategy (which isn’t a bad one) but by doing so you cannot trade your top guys for depth youth and picks.

Unless it is something dumb like Bouwmesteer for Stastny or Heatley or something why both shop him?

It’s a toss up for me. I see the potential to get some decent assets for him, assets that would help the team long term and be better in the long run (likely) but I also see reasons to keep Bouwmeester.

Unless Calgary finishes in the bottom five for the next two years, I see a very very bad future for them in a division that has the potential to become the best in the west…

Is it me or would it not be a complete waste by the flames to trade j-Bo now?

I mean agree all that spending, all the moves to win now, why bother moving arguably your best dman?

They may want to try and improve the d, nit make it weaker.

There are rumors that keep persisting that Bouwmeester is a target for St Louis. He’d fit the need they have for a top line left handed dman. Plus with the new owner they could afford the contract.

Brendan Morrow would be a great fit in St.Louis, he would thrive being reunited with Hitchcock, and he would fit in with that team.

I think the Blues are looking for a quality defenceman to fill out the roster too.

They could consider UFA’s Rozsival or Kubina, I think both those guys are still capable of contributing in a top-4 role, and could probably both be had on shorter term deals.

If they wanna trade for a top-4 defenceman, they might wanna consider HJalmersson, although Chicago might not make such a move within the division. Other options could be Yandle if he’s still available at all, that would be the dream for them, Dan Boyle has been rumoured to be available as well, not sure what the Sharks would want, but he’d be sweet with Petro on the PP.
