One thing you need to consider though is that the mess he left was more or less just Gomez, aside from him and a few inflated contracts, it's not all bad and we're not that far off. With gomez gone after using the amnesty and perhaps one of gionta or kaberle (depending on how each plays this season) we could be in hard on a few high profile free agents

I think its a great idea to audition him and buy him out if he's not looking great. However, if we were to move assets for him there won't be an immediate buyout.

Honestly, I know some goalies age well, but Luongo's play (though not necessarily his numbers) has slipped a bit in the last couple of seasons. Is he still a quality NHL starter? Absolutely, but I don't see the point in grabbing this guy.

I'm looking at 2, 3, maybe 4 years from now when we could have a chance at a winner, and I'm picturing us with this mid to late 30's Luongo who is just okay, and its a grim future.

I mean we could always find a way to get rid of him if that happens, but what a headache...

Anyway's we'll see what happens. If he comes here, hopefully he can do well. Personally I say leave him alone, and go for the tank for once. Let's keep the rebuild going. I'm sure most knowledgable Leafs fan's would be okay with a proper Edmonton/Pittsburgh/Chicago style rebuild, using Rielly, and Gardiner as the two current building blocks.

Apparently according to Sportsnet that is the deal.

I was looking at Luongo's numbers today and he's only had one season in his career with a GAA over 3.00. Given that he prone to collapse every now and then those are good numbers. I'm wouldn't be thrilled about his contract but he could be our next Cujo. Audition Luongo for this season and use a buyout on him if he fails.

The nice thing of giving up Bozak and Kadri would be to force Burke to get another center in the off season (Lombardi and Connolly being bandaids) and forcing Colbourne to make the jump in the meantime.

Though Burke should be fired either way.

And for the record I'd prefer to tank but if they're going to go for it don't half ass it.

Bozak and Kadri? Jesus, nobody else has any interest in Luongo at all, except maybe Florida. The Canucks are looking at a $31 million buy-out that will be spread out until 2031.

We would be doing them a huge favour by taking this contract. I don't think we should do it unless we're getting a 1st round pick back, or a top prospect like Jordan Schroeder considering the financials involved.

Bozak and Kadri for Luongo? Burke should be fired. And I'm not big on either Bozak or Kadri.

It is difficult to predict; and it will be very close. However I do think the Leafs have just about the weakest roster in the East.

See, somehow even when i say that im not labelling you specifically as that type of fan, you take it as though i am abd become defensive. I was only stating the feelings that your type of comment makes me have. Not how i feel specifically about you as a fan. Im sorry if you felt personnally attacked. Not my intention.

Also, i understand the notion that the action of one can reflect badly for a team as a whole, but after watching the full tournament i can look past the actions of a couple russian and canadian players. If others cant, well thats too bad. But thats just the way it is i suppose.

And finally this isnt about patriotism really. You say youre a hardcore leaf fan. Ok, well im a hardcore habs fan, and to me its not about being patriotic. Im a team canada fan in international play the same way i am a habs fan during the nhl season. Im Canadian yes, but to me it's not about being patriotic. Being patriotic just increases my passion while watching.
