Campoli and Regin avoid Arbitration

The Senators announced they have signed Peter Regin to a 2 year, 2 million dollar contract and also signed Chris Campoli to a 1 year 1.4 million dollar contract. Both players were set to go to arbitration and got a deal done before their hearings. With now Ottawa needed a defensive defenseman, who will they go after? Will they trust Cowen with the job? Will they still bring back Sutton? Who will be traded….Kuba? We will have to see! Lets look into what could happen.Needs: Ottawa needs a Shutdown defenseman to play the PK.

Ottawa has

Matt Carkner
Chris Campoli
Chris Phillips
Brian Lee
Philip Kuba
Sergei Gonchar
Erik Karlsson
Jared Cowen

All these guys are looking for spots on the roster. The most obvious move looks to be moving Kuba, but Murray gave him a no trade clause so he will have to waive it if he wants to be traded. Ottawa has Gonchar, Karlsson, Campoli to help with moving the puck. So it makes sense that they move Kuba while he still has value if they can get him to move his no trade clause.

Ottawa now needs a shutdown guy to play the PK. All Ottawa has is Phillips, Carkner and Cowen. The Sens really need a guy that can play the PK and there are still these avaliable defenseman out there to sign for that role.

Andy Sutton
Jay McKee
Mike Weaver
Willie Mitchell

These are the best shutdown guys left on the market. I would personally go with Jay Mckee as he is reliable, he can do it all and is a faster skater than Sutton so he can be more mobile. He usually only ends up playing around 60 games in a season as he has an injury or two but he will be cheap and Cowen can fill in when he needs to.

That is all I have right now. Post some ideas and what you might think will happen with this situation.
