Can Tavares bring change to the Island?
Now that John Tavares is wearing the orange and blue what changes are in store for the Isles?
July 1st is right around the bend and the isles first off need a backup goalie. Being a backup behind DiPietro means a lot of ice time so I don’t think they will have a problem finding a good backup. More than likely who ever we get as a backup is going to be our #1 guy. I have a feeling DP might not ever recover from his knee and hip surgeries.
How will Tavares affect players view of the Isles come July 1st?
The Isles always have a problem getting free agents to come to LI, worse building in all of hockey, not much hope of making the playoffs, some crazy GM’s (Mad Mike!!!) and ownership problems. With a new building looking more likely, a good core of young players and LI just being a great place to live, could JT help them land a few good players?
With just 34.7 million against the cap (two way contracts included) the isles have plenty of cap space to land a few good players. Komisarek a LI native has been heavily rumored (even before JT) to go to the Isles. Streit, Witt, Sutton, Martinek and Gervais/Meyer, add Komisarek and not to bad. But the isles biggest issue is goal scoring and size up front! JT will help with that but he can’t do it alone. Okposo looks to be a 30-35 goal scorer in a year or two, Nielsen, Comeau and Bergenheim look like they’ll be good players aswell. I’m not sold on Bailey yet (hopefully he’ll be good) and then you got Jeff Tambellini. Not sure whats up with him leading goal getter in AHL, suck in NHL. If he can find the magic touch we got a real soild core of youth.
I’m not saying a few players and we are cup bound. We need more depth in EVERYTHING!
What I want to know from you guys.. Is JT a player that other players will want to play with? Can he really bring the Isles back to the glory days? Really how good is he?
Living in Virginia I don’t get Hockey unless I’m on the net. I’m hoping my friends up North can give me some insight on JT. You guys north of the border have seen him for 5yrs. I’m really pumped about my team right now and that don’t happen to often being a Islander fan.
The Isles sold like 15,000 Tavares jerseys on the Saturday after the draft so it’s working already!
Go Isles! Hope you Islander fans are as pumped as I am.
