Can the Oilers Pull this off??

First and foremost I’d like to say as a Habs fan it’s a sigh of relief to clinch a playoff spot before the last game or 3rd last game of the season this year – Good job boys!

Now as a fan of the Oilers – here’s where things get sticky after last nights impressive win over the Wild the Oilers now sit with 83 points, 3 points back of the Avalanche/Canucks for the 7th and 8th spot, the problem lays in the fact that the Predators also sit 4 points out of the spot – while Nashville has a game in hand on the Oil and the Avs.

It’s a typical Edmonton Oilers season – four games at any other time in the schedule would see Edmonton sitting in fifth in the conference, instead we get treated to the typical nail biter that Oilers fans have grown accustomed too.

Depending on how the puck bounces I can see the Oilers slide into a playoff spot – but one thing of beauty is Brian Burke get’s to eat his words this summer and not get a lottery pick for Dustin Penner!

Go Oil Go!!

    Not likely.

  2. Kramer says:

I heard a rumor the Oilers are moving back to the WHA.

I'd love to see all 3 western Canadian teams make the playoffs, but unfortunately I think the Oilers will fall just short. This run has been an encouraging sign for the future though. Chin up Oilers fans and good luck.

Any canadian team in the playoffs but the laughs are a bonus.even the the sens.I hope the oilers can advance to the playoffs but its getting slim.

  5. Oil-Life says:

haha good joke…why is that because we've had quite possibly the best team ever put together in the NHL and won 5 Stanley Cups?

  6. Oil-Life says:

Would love to see it happen, but Nashville's sched is just to easy down the stretch.  Hope the Canucks make it so we can have more Canadian blood in the playoffs, I'll be cheering for the Habs in the playoffs though, you can count on that!

How can you not like the Oilers?

Love this team except that jerk Stortini, he over does it sometimes(agitating).

Hope they make it, they have a bright future…especially with their new owner who will spend they money.

  8. leafy says:

They could still make it, but they need a good streak at the end.

Speaking of the Oilers, I watched a 1981 playoff game between the Oilers and Islanders last night on Hockey Classics.

The young Oilers gave the powerhouse Islanders a hard time, losing in OT.

Also, interesting to see Mark Messier with long hair!

The day they post this the Avs win and the Oil loses..5 points is kind of a steep hill to climb now but the Oil gave it their best!

  10. simplyhabby says:

Hate to compare EDM to TOR but they both dug a hole too deep to climb out of and you're done!  Specially after the losses to Minny and the B's.

Al least the Oil has a great future to look forward to.  Well, until the players they have become stars and no longer want to play in EDM where they will start the cycle all over again.  (I like the oil and that player philosophy hurts)

I guess West Edmonton mall and a hockey mad market is not enough for players.

  11. HABSSTAR says:

    But not 5 in a row…HABS!

  12. HABSSTAR says:

The more things change the more they stay the same.  A salary cap is in place but the Oil still have to fight tooth and nail to the last game to make it on a roster full of potential.  It wouldn't surprise me to see the Oliers pull it off.  The Nucks are playing poor hockey and the Avs are regular at best.  Maybe both the Oil and the Preds get in.

  13. Oil-Life says:

    hahaa truee that sir.

  14. Oil-Life says:

Yup that sucks, good thing we're still 3 behind you right.

  15. Oil-Life says:

I'm hoping things will change, now with the new owner and the building proposal for our new arena.  Maybe if we can keep players like Hemsky Gagner and Cogliano here for a long time players might be more attracted to a winning market.
