You may be right, however as a Sabres fan I certainly hope that Chicago wouldn't willingly fleece themselves. Bolland is as good a 3rd line center as their is in the league. He wouldn't work as a 2nd line guy and the Leafs have 3 3rd line centers, Connolly, Steckel, and Lombardi. Sure one of them may get moved, but not 2 outta 3. You could use Steckel as a 4th liner I guess, but it seems like a waste.

Well, they signed him…Quickly send him to the minors after not a horrible season. They still signed Beauchemin and Komisarek in the offseason.

Has it stopped players flocking to the Rangers? NO.

What about the Leafs and Jeff Finger? NO.

What about Flyers getting Versteeg, then dumping him to Florida? Bryzgalov still went there.

it is a good deal but I cannot see Toronto pulling the trigger after signing Grabo to that extension. Sign and trades are not the way to get free agents to sign with your team.

John Jaeckel, blogger for the Hawks, has mentioned numerous times that the Hawks are desperate for a good second-line center. He said he is willing to deal numeous players for that.

I once was discussing with it. He said 'he' would have dealt a first and McNeill for Grabo if he was locked up, so kind of based it off that.

Might favored us a bit, but I'm willing to offer them a good defencemen in this deal if that's what they want. I just said Holzer because he's more like the type of d-men they're looking for.

Nice try, but I fail to see what Chicago really gains here. Grabovski had 1 really nice season sure, but if you look at what he's being paid now he'll have to continue at that pace to be worth it. Bolland makes less money and has proven to be a game changer as the 3rd line center. The Hawks could be looking for blueliners, but why give up a near NHL ready center for Holzer? He's looking decent with Marlies, but he's hardly worth more than a 2nd round pick, nevermind McNeill.

I might offer crazy suggestions, but whatever. Apparently the Hawks are desperate for a second-line center...And they might be willing to deal some key players.

Toronto:

Grabovski
Holzer

Chicago:

Bolland
McNeil

Why the Hawks would do it?

Well, Grabovski would be a good fit for them. As well, they're looking for some physicality in their top-six D-Men so Holzer will help in that aspect. With an emerging Phillip Danault taking probable third-line duties, this will make them a better team.

Why the Leafs would do it?

Were weaker down the middle...But not for long. Bolland is a very good defensive center, will automatically take shut down roles on this. Which Carlyle adores with his third-line. McNeil is not readyet, but he is projected to be a tenacious second-line C.

If you can draft a good center with the 5th overall pick. Down the middle you could have ?/McNeil/Bolland. Which is pretty solid with a bit of tenacity.

But if you go back further, what was the last major signing each franchise made?

For Toronto, it was probably Mogilny or Belfour. Around 10 years ago.

I can't even name Montreals. You can't argue that Cammallari can bring the same impact as Richards, Gaborik, Hossa, Chara, or Rafalski can bring.

These franchises have not been able to sign the big fish for a long time now.
