Canucks looking to bolster roster

According to the Vancouver Province, the Canucks are heading into the trade deadline as buyers and have plenty of money under the salary cap to spend on new players.

Canucks GM Mike Gillis appears to be reluctant to trade away his first-round pick, or top-prospect Cody Hodgson, but would consider a deal if he can land a top-tier athlete with a few years left on his contract

Various reports suggest the Canucks are interested in Toronto’s Tomas Kaberle, Ottawa’s Filip Kuba, St. Louis’ Keith Tkachuk and the New York Islanders’ Bill Guerin

If the leafs could pry hodgson from Vancouver, that would be awesom, if that guy was in this years draft he would be in the top 3 for sure, he has really developed since last year, I love Schenn but man it would have been nice to draft hodgson, thats why I hope they get a forward in this years draft , they really need one, duchene, kane or pajarrvi, seeing as i doubt they would get Tavares, now if they end up with the #1 pick I would consider trading it to the team at say #3 or #4  but they would have to throw in their top prospect with their 3rd or 4th pick, if its tampa demand their Pick and Stamkos. maybe the leafs would have to throw something else in but who cares it will be worth it. what do you people think?

i dont know about that deal…if u get one of the top 2 picks, i really wouldnt trade it for next to anything. tavares and hedman i think are the best players to come into the league since maybe lindros (excluding crosby, ovechkin, and malkin). i know theres other good players in this yrs draft but nothing like those two. as for stamkos, i know its early, but i think this guy has bust written all over him. he was always a bit overrated, but hes going to be the biggest bust in a while i think.

I hope all the best to Steve since he's a hometown Unionville boy but I got a bad feeling about him. I hope he proves everyone wrong and breaks out for a hundred point season next year, that'd be awesome.

Totally agree about Tavares/Hedman. They are the best players in the draft in the last few years.

I would love to have Kaberle but Burke would probably want Edler or Hodgson and i don't see Gillis giving them up. But i could see…

Van: Antropov, Ponikarovsky (or Hagman) and Kubina
Tor: The Sedin Twins & O'Brien

I could see Burke wanting the Twins.

  5. bobdole says:

bahahahah bahahahah. the bong please. Andropov? 50 point player, poni 30 point player, kubina o my lord. So yes trade to 70-80 point players for crap that makes great sense. You have just made this team a piece of shit. Well done you last 3 seconds in the gm world. There is nothing on the leafs roster that justifies trading both the sedins. Even if you gave me stajan, and antropov and 1st pick i wouldnt do it. The leafs have nothing good to trade

  6. Dallas_Fan_78 says:

I know this is a Canucks thread, but what would it take for the Stars to get Kubina from the leafs. They need a good solid blueliner with playoff experience.  They should also claim Jeremy Williams off waivers.  You can never have too much good young talent. Just my opinion.

  7. bobdole says:

did i freebase crack? when did kubina become a good d-man. This guy  is sluggish bad defensively and he cant skate worth shit. He not even a top 4 d-man

I guess you don't actually watch the games.

  9. mitchamac says:

Prob a prospect and a pick

    to dallas: kubina
to toronto – jamie benn and a sec round pick

    i just guessing

  10. cletedawg says:

that sounds fair maybe not the 2nd but a salary dump like avery

  11. mitchamac says:

you will prob see something like this

To Toronto -hodgson and a 1st
    To Vancover – kaberle

kaberle still has 2 years left on his contact @4.25mill that still leaves vancouver with about 3 million to to trade for another good player

  12. mitchamac says:

avery will be playing for the ranger very soon

  13. cletedawg says:

theres lots of teams that can claim him before the rangers and i think he would fit in to burkes team well

  14. dumbassdoorman says:

Agreed it is a very lop sided trade with the exception that the Nucks could lose the twins for nothing this summer. That being said why would Burke trade assets for what might be had for contracts?

  16. dumbassdoorman says:

As a Leaf fan i would love for that trade to happen. As a realist I know it won't happen.

  17. VCRMillionaires says:

Bong hit? You should get outta your mom's basement. The Canucks won't get far in the playoffs with the Sedins (we have no one to play with them) and they are ufa's at the end of the year. So why not trade them for players Burke doesn't want? Hey i'd take Kaberle over Kubina anyday. But i just want to get rid of the Sedins before we lose them for nothing. Or we can keep them and pick a rw'er that would be great. Where's Anson Carter?

  18. bobdole says:

yes trade the sedins right before the playoffs lol. That makes great sense. Afraid of loosing them for nothing? That the chance you take. but to trade them for fringe players just when your about to make to playoffs. Is down right ludacris

  19. bobdole says:

does everyone do drugs? Like seriously. hodgson for kaberle straight up maybe. But considering hodgson is so vaulable I way rather get someone better

  20. dumbassdoorman says:

If you got Kaberle for Hodgson that would be fair, you will not get anyone "better" for him. Kaberle is a top puck moving defensemen, that is worth something.

  22. VCRMillionaires says:

Keeping the Sedins would be ludacris if we don't pick a rw'er to play with them. If we trade them away we have enough money to trade for other players who will help us win. The Sedin don't have enough guts to help us through the playoffs. We need more Keslers and Burrows (but bigger) who want to win and show that they want to win. I'll take anything for the Sedins. You think we could win with the Sedins? Are you drinking the bong water too?

  23. VCRMillionaires says:

With out trading Hodgson what moves could the canucks do to win?

Should we go after St.Louis or Olli Jokinen ?

  24. VCRMillionaires says:

"The Leafs are believed to be looking for a top prospect and a first-round draft pick for their stud blueliners." (http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tor090213.html)

so how about a 1st rounder and Cory Schneider (and throw in O'Brien?) for Kaberle?

  25. bobdole says:

realize that the sedins will not be traded. I repeat will not. You only trade players if your a loosing team. Teams that are in the midst of a playoff run do not trade top level players. Of course we can win with the sedins. You dont trade players if your going to make the playoffs. Watch jay boumester wont be traded either. Why because the panthers are going to make the playoffs. Hossa deals up too maybe detroit will trade him for kubina. Hossa playoff record isnt that good. Like I said stop smoking drugs

  26. VCRMillionaires says:

As long as we have the Sedins we will never hold up the cup. And who said i have to 'smoke' to do drugs?

  27. smokz13 says:

if the leafs can get hodgson of the canucks it would probley take half the leafs pathetic rostor (with the leafs eating the salaries) to do so or i will walk through down town prince george with nothing on. like come on you tards, hodgson is one of the best prospects out there in years and is going to end up an all-star if he continues his play in the nhl. only a leafs fan would think this would happen and that fantasy includes a jar of vaseline and some sented candles.
