I doubt there is any way that Tampa makes the playoffs even if Boyle is back. He's going to take some time to get back to his old form and did I mention that they are still in last place. Jesus. 8 points is a lot considering they have to jump over 7 other teams also. They will have to win 80% of their games to get in. Not happening. I think Tampa needs to trade Boyle and get something decent for him. If he wasn't injured all year his value would be higher, but they could still get soemthing for him. There main concern is getting a goalie and they might have to deal one of there big 3 forwards. Tampa's problem is that they also have a self-imposed cap of something like 42-44 million. So it's hard to build a team when most of the money goes to 4 guys and you don't even spend up to the cap. If this teams had Boyle for the whole season and was able to spend up to the cap and find a goalie, they would get into the playoffs.

As for Campbell, I think he is as good as gone. The Sabres just keep losing and now he is the one who has closed talks with them. That can't be a good sign. Buffalo has made too many blunders over the past couple years and yes, the idea of not negoatiating contracts during the season is by far one of the stupidest things ever. They can't attract UFAs in the summer and they can't even re-sign any of their own. This team was looking so promising right after the lock-out and have dug themselves a huge hole. The good news is, they have still drafted well and have lots of talent and young guys that they can work with. I hate to say, but I think it's time for Darcy Regier to go. Way too many mistakes in recent years. Not re-signing Grier or Mackee in 2006. Lost lots of toughness right there. Not re-signing either Drury or Briere. Lost leadership and scoring. About to lose Campbell, but should get something in return. However, still losing a top 10 defenceman in the league in the midst pf his prime years. Not good.

I'm not so sure. The Lightning have been ABYSMAL.
They may not be too many points out (8 but having played an extra game, and with 4 more losses) but teams like the Caps and even the Leafs have been playing well lately. The Lightning's only real chance would be to go on and win the division, since it's looking probable that only the divisional leader will 'win' a playoff spot. Carolina and Atlanta have been fighting over it, and now the Caps have joined in the fun, with the Panthers and Lightning not too far back. If they don't win their division, and assuming 8th place needs roughly 90 points to make it in (and it could be more), TB would need to go something like 22-8-3 in their final 33 games to get 92 points and make it... does that seem likely?
