Richards had 66 Points in 82 games last year(Grabovski has done that) and he has 13 pts in 19 games this year I believe, while playing with Gaborik and Nash(I know Nash has been hurt).
Is he worth the $6.667 cap hit through 2020? If yes, Burke missed out. If not, Burke made the right decision. Considering how much complaining there is about the contracts Burke did sign…Komi, Connolly, Grabo, Lupul, Armstrong for example, it’s funny that people wanted him to go out and pay high for a #1 centre. I’m sure he would get blasted if he signed Richards to $7mil through 2012 and he was just ordinary here. No one wants us to trade for Luongo’s contract, but everyone blames Burke for not trying the same kind of contract to get a centre. Damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.

But when Burke sent Nonis to offer Richards half the money Calgary did, that was just humiliating the Leafs organization to make his point to NHLPA. It was a disgrace.
I never understood why he never made a genuine effort to get center.
