Fletcher to Sundin: The List

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=230283&hubname=nhl
According to TSN’s Daren Dreger, Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher sat down with Sundin on Thursday to discuss his future with the club. Among the talk, Fletcher asked Sundin to make a list of teams that he would like to be traded to, if he was to go somewhere. It seems that the plot has now thickened in the Sundin deadling talk…

Not to mention that Sundin and McCabe missed this mornings practice – which just adds more fuel to the trade fires

  7. Hockey_Insider says:

Just to add to the article, just after 4:30 on the Bill Walters show on AM 640 Toronto Radio, Cliff Fletcher was a guest and openly denied that he had asked for “a list”. He did however say he had extensive discusions with Sundin’s agent J.P Barry, and is hoping to hear back from them before the weekend ends. He went on to say that J.P knows the importance of working something out before the trade deadline. Also AM 640 said that Fletch’ also had discussions with McCabe. I checked with a good buddy who’s close to the situation and said this was false. To prove this point further when Fletcher was being interviewed on 640, they didn’t bother bringing it up. This whole situation seems confusing…

    Trade to a division rival?

    Not gonna happen.

Ottawa would have props to lol forever at the Leafs if that happened.

Lets rebuild, and hope sundin and other players will waive there no trade, and lets stop talking about it untill tuesday, cuz im getting sick everyday hearing about mats and im a leaf fan.

  14. FarFromFreedom says:

LOL!!! Ian White and Ponikarovski for Patrick Marleau? .. what are you smoking pal. Yes Marleau is having a bad year but he would demand ALOT more then what your proposal is besides he isnt going anywhere considering he was placed on the IR

  16. Hockey_Insider says:

He did meet with Sundin and his agent, but my source tells me that McCabe and Fletcher met briefly before practice this morning, just as McCabe was leaving for home because he was sick. The conversation was little more than an update of how things were going.

  17. lukeleim says:

why the F are my posts not spaced out.

  18. rcichard03 says:

i seen the fan 640 thing… where fletcher said he didnt say tht

  19. NHLSlayer says:

Why did Sundin and McCabe claim they missed practice?

  20. mojo19 says:

Let's just say for a second that a trade did happen sendin Mats to Ottawa, for picks + prospects, and let's say the only roster player moved from the Sens is Vermette. How abou these lines for the playoffs:

    Stillman – Sundin – Alfredsson
    Heatley – Spezza – Kelly
    McAmmond – Fisher – Neil
    Donovan – Robitaille – McGratton

Wow. Just imagine having Mats, Spezza, and Fisher down the middle. Scary. Then all they need is a goalie.

  21. mojo19 says:

Who knows. I for one would like to know if Zambo heard anything about it.

  22. mojo19 says:

Ya it happens with the spacing sometimes, if you preview your comment beofe pushing okay it usually will either jam it all together or space it out. Then if its jammed after you preview it and you put in the spaces again, it will work. That usually works for me anyways.

  23. habs_punk says:

We really don't need to know your trade deadline moves from NHL 08.

  24. KingCanada says:

Why not, Boston and Toronto traded Raycroft/Rask not too long ago.  And its just a playoff rental anyways

  25. LeafsNation91 says:

    I'm a Leafs fan and I'm wondering…

WHY THE HELL DO THESE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT TO GO TO A GOOD TEAM????? A playoff team???

To many pucks in the head.

Like come on Kaberle, be reasonable, Philadephia is another strong market where they will be stanley cup contenders in a year or two.

Sundin will be back next year, SO WHY NOT LEAVE FOR LIKE A MONTH

McCabe wanted to leave before, NOW he wants to stay.

Kubina should just end his life

Can someone give me a reason that makes sense.

  26. jpmac says:

Rayccroft?? Imagine if Bourque was traded to Montreal or Toronto, thats what it would be like if Sundin goes to Ottawa or Montreal

  27. jpmac says:

NO ONE WANTS BLAKE OR KUBINA!!!!!!!! WAKE UP

  28. lukeleim says:

actually it has been reported that dallas is very interested in blake. buster

  29. 42wellwood42 says:

Cliff Fletcher is in a hard spot right now but if anyone can turn this team around it him.

He will need to move Mats Sundin along with Pavel Kubina to free up around 10 million and add draft picks and prospects.

To Toronto: Bobby Ryan, Brendan Mikkelson, 1st Round Draft Pick (Edmonton's)
To Anaheim: Mats Sundin, Matt Stajan, 2nd Round Draft Pick (2009)

    Then,

To Toronto: Bobby Sanguinetti, Paul Mara
    To New York: Pavel Kubina

    Draft:

    Steven Stamkos, and Alex Pietrangelo.

Id like to see Jason Blake and Andrew Raycroft gone as well.

  30. LeafsNation91 says:

No one is going to take pavel Kubina, we should just buy him out

To make the trade better for Anaheim, throw in Wellwood instead of Stajan, if one guy can get his career back on track, it is deffinetley Brian Burke

And Bryan McCabe will hopefully go to the Islanders.

    Keep Blake for now

  32. dcz28 says:

Lmao @ Hudler, Kindl 1st & 2nd round picks for Sundin and Gill…keep dreaming.

  33. tacitus says:

I heard Sundin is a Redwing if he wants to be…. He simply has to waive the NTC for the deal to be done but it is speculated Mats will sign 2 year extension if he waives and Detroit will be giving up Hudler plus prospects/draft picks

  34. Radio says:

Yeah, but Kelly would not play the wing. Robitaille would play RW with Spezza. Kelly would center line 4. Also McGrattan would be benched and Schubert would play RW 4th line. Also Heatley-Spezza line would count as Line 1, and Sundin Alfie as line 2.

  35. LeafsNation91 says:

If Sundin signs with a team, their going to get a HUGE package.

  36. senators101 says:

I know it's not as likely he waives it for OTtawa, but one can hope! I just got excited when I heard the rumor that he might be willing to waive it for Ottawa.

  37. 08-09 says:

i am not convinced that sundin will be dealt and i have prepared myself for the possibility that he will still be a leaf come tuesday night.

that being said, i'd love to see him win a cup and bring prospects the other way.

the villification of mats sundin BOTH BEFORE and (if he stays) after the deadline by many (not some) many leaf fans will make me be more ashamed of being a leafs fan than anything else possibly could.

it would be such a huge condemnation of what it means to be a leaf fan.

i know what some are are saying though – why in the world would he want to stay? well, its hard to fathom, but i DO understand the lure of the leafs jersey …

why are leaf fans who have cheered for this team through decades of mediocrity still cheering for them? how hypocritical would it be to crap on Sundin if he stays?

every non-leaf fan has asked me why i cheer for this team as hopeless as they have been since 1984, and my answer is the same as Sundin's. it is just too damn interesting of a team, too much history, so many aspects to this team that keep me from being loyal to them. oh i am still critical of them, but i'll always cheer for the leafs.

    —-
Possible Sundin Destinations and deals? (all of which will likely see another player from the leafs signed through next year heading out of Toronto with Sundin – i.e.: Antropov or Poni or White or Wellwood, etc.)

Detroit – I'd be asking for Hudler OR Kindl, a 1st rounder, and likely another prospect (Larsson) OR a 2nd rounder in 2009.

    Vancouver – Raymond, Bourdon, 1st rounder in 2008, 2nd rounder in 2009.

Anaheim (version 1) – Bobby Ryan, Mikkelson, 2nd rounder (edmonton's) in 2008 draft

    Anaheim (version 2) – 1st rounder (edmonton's), Mikkelson, MacMillan

San Jose – Setoguchi OR Petrecki, 1st rounder in 2008, 2nd rounder in 2009, McLaren
(could actually see names like Poni or even Raycroft or Kubina heading to San Jose, in that case more cap space and talent coming back the other way for the leafs).

Calgary – Boyd OR Backlund OR Irving (one of these 3 high end prospects), Warrener, 1st rounder in 2008
(likely to see White go the other way to Calgary)

    Montreal – Emelin, Halak, 1st rounder in 2008, 2nd rounder in 2009

Toronto – STAYS in Toronto, leaf fans cheer him regardless for all he has done, for carrying the team, for his consistency, for PUTTING UP with the crap that some leaf fans throw his way EVERY SINGLE YEAR (many of which watch too much of Coaches Corner).

  38. joyn6160 says:

The bottom line is that Fletcher has gone to Mats with a deal. Mats has to decide, and its reported that hes pretty emotional about it all. In my honest opinion if Mats dresses tonight, there is no way he waives it. If he has any intention of leaving the leafs, why would he play another game in the leafs uniform? So he can risk being injured? You could make the argument that he wants one more last game in Toronto, but lets be honest. He wont get the recognition hes looking for as a farewell, bc us the fans do not know if a deal has been reached. Anyways, my prediction on this whole soap opera:

Mats stays, McCabe goes, Steen goes, and maybe one other trade involving Gill or something.  Then waivers/buyouts in the summer time to some of those retards aka "Tucker, Kaberle, and Kubina" who deny a trade to win a cup, and remain on a shitty team looking to rebuild with a fresh start. When it comes to the Leafs and their fans, nobody gives a damn about loyalty. We have had that all along, we are looking for the right players to win the Cup and clearly these guys are more interested in having a nice time hanging out in Toronto then they are winning a cup.

I say boo them all out of town. Loyalty is only good if your willing to pay the price, and these guys are not.

  39. 08-09 says:

"'The Leafs gave me a chance to think about it and all that but as I said my position hasn't changed since the start of the year.

''I have to do what feels right in my heart. I just don't think I can go to another team if I don't want to play for another team. That wouldn't be right to myself. That's how I feel right now.''

Sundin said this at the practice this morning … doesn't sound too eager to move to me, yet the media are spinning it like its still in the air. who knows?

  40. flyersfan10897 says:

I agree.  If theres a good reason for needing, not just wanting to stay, like giguere and his kids medical problems in anaheim, thats fine.  But why would you not want to leave a losing team for one with a shot of winning the cup, or at least making the playoffs, where really anything can happen.

It makes sense for redden not to leave, he's on a cup contender.  But isnt playing about winning? If winning isnt the most important thing, you shouldnt be playing.

  41. FarFromFreedom says:

Thats just speculation from thefourthperiod because Dallas was very keen on signing Blake in the offseason. Dallas was offering 3mil per and then the Leafs raised the price tag to 4 mil which then Dallas dropped out because the price was to high.

  42. BruMagnus says:

It'd be like having Crosby, Malkin and Staal down the middle!

  43. mojo19 says:

Hahaha, Crosby and Malkin for sure, Stall….not quite there yet. But yes, Pitty's dirty at centre.

  44. jpmac says:

Ok Buster, show me a credible source, besides thefourthperiod.com
