Forsberg Set to Return***Update: Forsberg signs a 1-year deal with Avs*** is reporting that superstar forward Peter Forsberg is set to announce that he will be returning for next season. Many sources close to Forsberg have said he will return for at least one more season, unless there is no lockout.

This is a huge break for the Avs. Now if they can acquire another solid 2nd line player they will have 3 good scoring lines to go with a solid defensive core.

Dad, are you licking toads again?

I’m confused on this “3 good scoring lines” and “solid defensive core” thing.

I count Forsberg, Hejduk, Tanguay, Sakic, Reinprecht, and Battaglia on offense…which comes up to 1 good scoring line and a halfway decent scoring line, not 3 good scoring lines. If you said acquire 2 solid second line players and 1 solid third line player, then you’d be right that you have 3 good scoring lines.

I count Foote, Blake, Morris, and Skoula on defense, and then nothing. Explain to me the “solid defensive core” thing again. You didn’t even say sign a free agent there.

I heard a joke the other day, I’ve decided to relate it to you.

Patrick Roy dies and goes to heaven and he meets St. Peter at the gates. St Peter says, “Patrick, you’ve been a good man your whole life. You’ve worked hard for your team, your family and given money to charity so we are going to give you your very own house in heaven.” They walk around heaven for a bit and when they get to Patrick’s house he sees it is a tiny little shack with a Colorado Avalanche logo in the window. Patrick looks around and sees on top of a hill right by his house that there is a huge mansion with Detroit Red Wings logos in all the windows. Patrick says to St. Peter, “Who’s house is that? I know, it has to be Steve Yzerman’s house! He was a hard working, dedicated player his whole life.” St Peter replies, “No, that is not Steve’s house.”

Patrick then says, “It’s gotta be Igor Larionov’s house. A true student of the game and he was also very dedicated to his team.” Peter replies, “No, that’s not Igor’s house.” Patrick then guesses, “That’s gotta be Brett Hull’s house. He left a good team to play for the Red Wings because he loved them so much and he was a member of the 700 goals club.” St. Peter says to Patrick, “No, its not Brett’s house.”

Exasperated, Patrick says to Peter, “Well then whose house is it?” Peter says, “It’s God’s house.”

The funny thing is I heard this from a non-hockey fan who lives in Indiana. Go figure.

    I’m not NOT licking toads….

  7. defenestrate says:

I’m giving you a free pass on that one, because it was kinda funny……

It’s right up with the one we used to tell here about how Bowman accidently locked his family in his car at the Pepsi Center, and it took the locksmith 30 minutes to get them out…

  8. defenestrate says:

You are witnessing the eternal optimism of youth. Ah, to be young again…

  9. Malurous says:

That, or he knows something we don’t! That’s completely possible. Highly unlikely, perhaps, but possible.

  10. dlo44 says:

looks to me like they are 1 good player away from 2 first lines.

  11. defenestrate says:

    Maybe he’s really Pierre LaCroix…..

  12. aaron says:

    Haha, that’s good too.

What a relief. I had a feeling he was going to return, but you never know about these things, especially with Peter;s strong desire to return to Sweden and win that promised championship for the the lowly MoDo of the Swedish elite league. Hopefully if there is a work stopage he will be able to do this and then come back to teh NHL, which he has hinted at when he said just because he wants to play for MoDo doesn’t mean he is done in the NHL. But it’s a catch-22 for us Forsberg and Avs fans, as well as hockey fans, because a work stoppage is gonna be a tough thing to sit through again. Go Avs, Forsberg for the Hart, Pearson, Ross, +/- Bud Light award, Selke, and Conn Smyth to go along wtih the Stanley Cup next year. Did you guys know he came in fourth in the voting for the selke this year. Deservedly so I might add. Actually I think he should have been in the top three. You can’t get a +52 by just playing offense.
