In 2002 Ilitch without a question did spend a lot and won a cup by doing so. He may have done this because he knew it would be the last chance to do so with the up coming CBA CAP likelyhood. This should have been at least attempted by the B’s to get Bourque his cup with the B’s.

That is what the lockout was really about. controlling the owner spending habits and nothong more.

You wont hear a player agent say so-and-so wasnt interested in going to play for some specific team because that would close a door on them possibly getting their $ from that town. Id love to see Neidermayer in the burg as much as the next Pens fan, I just dont see it being fiscally possible for them to give him the 7-7.8 million he will want, especially when, in order for him to get the said 7.8 the pens would have to make thier payroll the max in order for it to = 20% of the teams total payroll (makes no sense to me either) especially when theyve stated their payroll wont go beyond 31-33 million for the season.

As for LaPointe, I see absotively no reason why the Pens would want him when they are looking to get faster and more skilled, not slower and unskilled…

Also they will be in the market for a big defenseman.

Brisebois will go to either Detroit or Los Angeles, the latter being a better fit due to great cap room and familiar faces (Garon and Quintal).

Toronto will end up losing Nolan and Mogilny yet they will acquire Lindros and O’Neill. On D expect them to make a move for Rathje. Goaltending is already sketchy but why not they give Dafoe a fresh start, he’d come cheap too!

I also think Niedermayer and Kariya will go to Vancouver. Naslund will leave.
