just because the Habs make an offer dosnt mean Gagne has to take it they could offer 10million but he dosnt Have to take it this isnt 2k6 where they take the best offer given the habs could offer 5mil they flyers could offer 4 and Gagne could the 4 not saying he would be he could

An article came out this week where Gagne was asked about this rumour, and said that he was hoping to remain with Philly and even if Montreal made an offer, he'd hope Philly would match it. He wants to stay.

The article goes on to say that apparently Gainey and Clark are friends, plus offer sheets are pretty taboo in the GM circle, so this most likely won't happen.

Not saying they should, but if would really want to take a shoot a him, without paying the maximum price....You offer him a 4-5 years contract for $4,999,999.00/Yr plus incentives for about another million a year.....You would force Philly to either make a trade to free up cap space to keep him or accept the package ($4 to $5 million - Two 1sts, one 2nd and one 3rd round pick ).

The question is:

Is Gainey willing to sacrifice that much for Gagne ?

Would Gagne accept the Habs offer, therefor forcing Philly to react?

Would Gainey break the unwritten rule of not touching a RFA ? Someone already did it this year by offering a contract to Luongo (rejected by Luongo)

I wouldnt say they draft 'bad'. BUT in Gagne's case...Habs took Eric Chouinard (a formers major Junior linemate of Gagne) before Gagne got drafted. At draft day 1998, it didnt seem like a bad draft, but over the years Chouinard has never lived up to what he should have become. aaaaaaaanyway, Gagne to Montreal...I wonder if he can put in 40 goals on a line with Koivu and Kovalev. Would definately be entertaining to watch but for 4 first rounders, I'd cancel off the negotiations (if there is any).

Who ever said that the habs scouting suck is a complete ignorant. The habs scouting has been great since 2001 and if they were so bad, why are the habs prospect considered to be #5 in the league?
