Its evident that Pierre McGuire is simply jealous of the Habs. Remember when he applied for the GM's job and was simply turned away without even an interview?? Ultimately the job went to Gainey, and Pierre hasn't gotten over the fact that his "favourite team" doesn't consider him knowledgeable enough...in the US he may be considered "savy" and "exciting", however here in Canada his act is simply wearing thin...all sizzle, no steak! Have you ever seen a bigger kiss ass?? Perhaps a career in wrestling will be more suited to his bombastic approach.

Thank god Gainey wasn't GM then!! However, when I hear people throw names like Pacioretty and Subban out there, I do worry that a big mistake would be made! I would rather hold on to those guys and be competative for years, than trade them for a " stud " and have a shot this year, and then watch those guys become stars somewhere else.

From what I have been reading in the media, the cap will not be affected much for next season. It was reported that it may stay the same or drop a couple of million. It is the 2010 season that it may drop substantially depending on the economy. Either way, I do agree it could be a different off season than we are used to. The fact that Murray has said that the only players off limits on the Sens are those with no trade /no movement clauses. Everyone else is in play. Pierre McGuire keeps saying that the Habs problems stem fro Gainey not negotiating contracts during the season and the fact that he has so many pending RFA's and UFA's. I don't agree with Pierre! The players know the way Gainey operates, so I doubt they are concerned. Besdies if you read what most hockey people write, a player in the last year of their contract usually elevates their play in order to obtain the best deal going forward! I think Pierre is way off base!

It would be nice if Gainey could make a splash at the deadline that would help the team out with a cup run, as long as it didn't mortgage the future.
One other poster thinks Mtl should trade Higgins and Kovalev and a mid evel prospect for Staal of Pitts. I think that Higgins and a 2nd round in 2010 for Staal would be plenty and still may be too much. Staal has excelled os a thir line centre, but who knows if he could handle being the number one! Higgins on the other hand would compliment Crosby very well. He doesn't mind crashing and banging, is fast, and can score!
