So the 2nd overall, another 1st rounder, and a 2nd that might as well be a 1st rounder, plus a really decent prospect for the 1st overall? If it turns our to be the next Crosby, yeah it's worth it, but what are the chances of that? Edmonton would be smart to take that trade (though I really don't think they do anything but select nail) but Columbus could really be shooting themselves in the foot in all likelihood.

I would do it if I were Edmonton, and I'm the guy who thinks Yakupov is miles ahead of the other draftees. I don't think Columbus would give up that much for a lottery loss though, it just looks bad.

and yeah after yakopov the drop in talent is that much its been years since we saw a clear number one . Crosby Ovechkin who else?

yeah I can see that, I think it is the only way you pull Nash off of Columbus even if Nash demanded to be moved ASAP. Plus Vancouver upgrades their offense greatly while giving up little on D and their spare goalie. Maybe Columbus can send another vet player or goalie to even out the deal but I think as a core it is pretty good.

And overall I think the trade is okay, it just, IMO, works out for CLB much more than VAN.

Schneider is a RFA, which means he has very little choice of where he goes. And if CLB gives up Nash to get him worse case they 100% will match.

It might not be the best deal in general but it is an idea of what CLB would want for Nash.

- a no.1 goalie
- a young defenseman
- 1-2 top 6 forwards
- 1st round pick

give or take a piece depending on who they get.

First, if a goalie goes, makes a big difference if it's Lu or Corey. Luongo is signed forever, so they might as well trade Mason for a cheaper backup. If it's Schneider, they would need to sign him, and frankly, if I'm in Schneider's shoes and could sign with more or less any team I wanted, why the ***** would I go to Columbus, especially without Nash.

Second, I can't really see them trading Nash without getting a 1st back. Raymond would be a good temporary fill in for Nash, but on Vancouver's side that leave either Burrows on the 2nd line, or Nash. With the skill they have on the 1st line already, I'm not sure they need Nash there and it would be rather odd to have Nash on the 2nd line.

They just gave up a lot for Kassian, I doubt they will be in a hurry to move him. I also don't really see why Columbus would be interested in Tanev. Yeah, young D-man with decent size, but for what they may get for Nash, I'm not so sure.

Finally, though Vancouver can technically afford it, they have several players that will be needing raises next year. Plus, in the likely even that they get booted in the 1st round, they are going to want to make some changes next year, which means bringing in fresh blood most likely. Yeah, I realize that Nash would be new blood, but there are a few factors to potentially scare them off of him.

Negatives aside, I think Kessler could really come back to forum if he has someone like Nash to play with. Though maybe someone that sets up better than Higgins would help that potential line, they would be hell on defenders.

Though, yes, it might be too much (or not enough, depending on the goalie and any picks that would be included) I think Nash's contract might just be too much. His 7.8 per might look good in 5-6 years when a 20-30 goal scorer with size normally makes that, but right now I think it's a bit high for his numbers. The term also scares people away, but I don't think it'll be that much of a problem. If injuries catch up he can (hopefully) retire. He's only 27 and should be solid for at least another 5 years.

TLDR: It seems to be a good fit, Nash for a keeper and some young roster players, but I don't see how this particularly helps out either team.

if they want to make the playoffs next year they have to get a starter goalie and get Mason back to his backup role and re-develop him.

With Nash, 2nd overall, and 17th overall it wont be that hard to get. (I wouldn't move their 2nd overall if I were them though).

I think they should use Nash to get the goalie since they should be able to get a really good goalie, solid young D-man and a replacement forward or 2. I'm going to use Vancouver as an example:

To Vancouver:

Rick Nash

To Columbus:

Luongo / Schneider (whichever they are moving)
Mason Raymond
Zack Kassian
Chris Tanev

It might be a bit too much for Nash but this is definitely where they should start their negotiation.
