Damn , you beat me to it….

    To Dallas:

    5th round pick

    To NYI:

    2nd round pick

  2. wingerxxx says:

That’s not a bad return for Niniimaa, even if it just meant the 2nd round pick. He should do pretty well in Dallas, since his style of play is more suited to the Western Conference. We’ll see what else Mad Mike has up his sleeves.

  3. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

let the trades keep on rollin

  4. Scruffy05 says:

A second round pick for Niinimaa is an impressive feat for Mad Mike Milbury…

2.4 million for 10 points and a minus 7 rating isn’t a good deal. Here’s hoping Janne can turn it around in the Dallas system.

With the risk associated with him coming to Dallas, and still sucking it up for over 2 million dollars a 2nd round draft pick was at least one round higher than I was expecting… anybody know how many years are left in his contract?

  5. Kamakaze says:

Hmm, don’t know much about Erskine, but I’d bet he is worth a 5th rounder, which would mean Niinimaa for a 2nd rounder. Not a bad deal, could have been much worse. I always like Niinimaa from his days in Philly. This really adds a lot to Dallas defense, making them faster and probably a little younger I think (can’t exactly recall who is playing down there..).

Isles, well, I mean, isn’t it a little early to be trading players for picks? It doesn’t seem like Erskine will be Niinimaa’s replacement, will he?

While it didn’t look like Jani was working out in LI, does this mean the Isles will start selling? I could see them getting a 2nd-3rd rounder for Satan, a 3rd-5th plus prospect for Zhitnik, might be interesting to see how they do things… But it will be hard rebuilding with that giant paper weight by the name of Alexei…

  6. kdawg_leaf_fan says:

I guess this ends dalls’ hunt for a speedy defenceman. Niinnima back on track in a new enviorment with a stronger defence could be potent for other western contenders. At full potential, he has a hard shot great speed and excellent hands!

  7. Scruffy05 says:

    Alexei… Alexei…. Zhitnik?

There used to be another Alexei on the team but now his name is changed so it includes several four letter words around it….

  8. Scruffy05 says:

He is also the highest paid Finn snubbed from the Olympic team…

Aki Berg was taken over him… that had to hurt.

  9. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

    hmmmmmmmm guess what?

This calls for a sexy party!!!!!

  12. wingerxxx says:

I don’t see Satan being traded, because I think that even Milbury knows that taking the best pure shooter off of the team, means that Yashin will be wasted the rest of the year. Yashin isn’t the kind of player that makes players around him better, so it would be very hard to rebuild around him. He doesn’t have that same kind of magic that guys like Forsberg and Jagr have.

  13. Gretzkin says:

    Agreed. Nice move.

He will be better suited in the West.

    Keep it comin’ Mikey.

  14. Gretzkin says:

Dude, I went to your Peanut Butter Jelly link.

What are you, like 12 years old???

That is not funny at all.

  15. Gretzkin says:

John Erskine has 2 goals and 2 assists in 107 NHL games!!!!!!

Hopefully that 2nd round pick can turn into something.

But the Isles clear up 2 Million on their cap, and Ninamaa could be a good fit in Dallas

  16. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

you dont think your mom dancing is funny?

  17. Kamakaze says:

True, but, there comes a point where this team will either have to push for the playoffs, or trade for picks. Seems like, if Satan isn’t working out this year, might as well deal him to a contender while he still has value.

However, the situation with Yashin.. I mean, I don’t know, it’s tough because on one had, you paid this guy so much, but to do ANYTHING he “needs players around him”. So now you have to spend even MORE to get him to just be par? At what point do you cut your losses and just say “well, maybe we can’t buy him out, but we don’t have to dump MORE money on players for him that just aren’t working”.

By the way, I’m not saying Satan is playing bad, but, I mean, he and Yashin aren’t ripping it up like they should be… and that’s a lot of money to invest in mediocre to good play…

  18. Gretzkin says:

My Mom dancing is hilarious. She has a loose bladder, and if you can get her dancing and laughing, she *****ing wets her pants.

    Now THAT’S Funny!!!

But that stupid Banana is NOT.

  19. NYIGoalie23 says:

It has begun. Let’s see what else Milbury has in store. Let’s see how little we can get for what we can give.

  20. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

so you and your mom party down together?

  21. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

    lmao YOU GOT BURNED.

  22. Gretzkin says:

    We totally party down.

You know what they say, a family that plays together, stays together.

  23. Gretzkin says:

Yeah, that guy totally burned me, I’m soooo embarassed.

Holy crap, I should totally watch what I say, because I might get totally put in my place.

    Holy Cow! Lesson Learned.

    You Jackass…

  24. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

O yeah so what song do you and your mom boogey down too?

  25. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

awwww thats cute no need to throw a hissy fit now its only a joke.

  26. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

why do u want to know this lol?

  27. Hockey_Fan_99 says:

so if i see his mom i will know how to make her piss her pants of course!

  28. tannerpeake says:

i believe this year nad then next at 2.5, if i remember reading right.

  29. tannerpeake says:

this was a dump by the islanders. niinimaa was underachieving, isles have a prospect they want to bring up, gervis or something i think.

  30. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmsounds like a plan then 😀

  31. wingerxxx says:

See, that is the thing. Milbury is not a guy who admits mistakes readily. And if you trade Satan, you’re basically signing Yashin’s death warrant, as far as his season is concerned, because there’s no way that he’s going to put up a lot of points on this roster without Satan. But hey, it’s Mad Mike! There’s no telling what might happen in Milburyland.

I just think that if Satan is dealt, then logically, it would mean that Yashin’s time in Long Island is up. Which would mean that Milbury would basically be admitting a mistake of absolutely gigantic proportions. As for cutting their losses…geez if it were me, I’d buy out Yashin as soon as possible. I’d rather build around Mike York than Yashin, if I had the choice. I don’t think that any team captained by Yash will ever win a Stanley Cup. But that’s easy for us to say because the Islanders have so much invested in him. You are right though…lately, Yashin and Satan have been disappointing playing together.

  32. nordiques100 says:

its team finland in dallas. lehtinen, jokinen, miettinen, kapanen, hagman and now niinimaa

  33. TheRussianEvolution says:

Brings up the question of why Yashin was not bought out. He is a second line center and makes just about top salary in the NHL… that is the cause of the Islanders troubles. Yes, I realize Yashin has nothing to do with this trade, but it’s the principle.

Man oh man do the Islanders suck right now.

  34. wingerxxx says:

Yashin is definitely a first line center. The difference between him and guys like Forsberg, Sundin, etc. is that he absolutely cannot carry a team on his own. He can’t make the players around him that much better. He must have the parts around him in order to do well. Yashin is a very, very calculating player. He’s actually an incredibly smart player offensively. But very ‘cold’, I like to call him. Passion and emotion just aren’t part of his game. It’s why he rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Malakhov was the same way, most of the time. He won’t do more than what is necessary. Which is another thing that puts him below the levels of guys like Forsberg, Sundin, Lemieux and so on. He hasn’t been bought out because, for one, Mike Milbury would have to admit he was wrong. Which he does not do easily. And buying him out can’t be cheap, with that contract of his. Plus, it would leave them with a gaping hole down the middle. They’re stuck with him for now. Unfortunately.

  35. Gretzkin says:

    Okay… I guess.

  36. Gretzkin says:

She likes all kinds of stuff.

She cried when the Big Bopper died, so I’d avoid American Pie.

If you get her into a room, alone, I’d put on some of that Ally MacBeal crap. maybe Barry White, or something.

You’ll get your golden shower then.

  37. mikster says:

GOOD trade for the Isle’s. Erskine is definitely the kind of d-man they need. The Stars were never able to develop this guy into anything, as they never could with any of their defensemen prospects ever since Hatcher.

The Isle’s get a tough defenseman that can hit, check hard… cover his zone well and give an attitude to Isle’s Hockey. Exactly what they needed instead of a lame overpaid defenseman in Niinimaa.

Good deal for Milbury, i applaud him on this one. And a 2nd rounder too? Seriously…. duh? A no-brainer.

  38. BlueOrangeWhite says:

to those who can’t read between the lines, this was done for 2 reasons:

    1 – niniima wasn’t fitting in on L.I

2 – milbury needs the 2.5 it freed up to make his next moves

next will be, the firing of stirling (i think before next monday) and another trade…

    stay tuned.

ps – to those who keep writing this kind of stuff, satan is NOT going to be traded this season. get that through your heads. he is not on going to be involved.

bet on kvasha, asham, hunter, luckowich or parrish going.

  39. NemiNA says:

I love trades. I love trades alot.

I love trades more than I love chunky peanut butter with mint apple jelly on wheat bread with baked lays potato chips in the sandwich.

HINT: theres a dane cook reference in there. TRY TO FIND IT!

  40. JDash says:

Definately a good move for Dallas. Provides good DEPTH -don’t forget, Niinimaa won’t be asked to carry the same load for Dallas that he’s had to carry for some of his previous teams. For the Stars he likely won’t even be in the top three or four as far as minutes/game for defensemen…

Ahead of Niinimaa on the Dallas depth chart is: Zubov (having a good year); Boucher (further establishing himself as a top-pairing caliber player); and Klemm (old but solid in his zone).

Additionally, Trevor Daley will probably maintain a reasonable amount of minutes, as he’s played well with Klemm for the majority of the season. Dallas management and fans are also rather high on Robidas, who’s a super hard worker and reliable. Oh, and Dallas also has Skoula back on D, who has been something of a disappointment, but certainly still competent on an NHL team.

  41. brewstar03 says:

I too was miffed when I heard it was a second rounder, but seeing as how it will be a late second, I don’t think it will matter much.

  42. brewstar03 says:

Couldn’t develop Erskine into anything? Don’t kid yourself. It’s obvious Erskine was just a throw-in for this trade. He is purely a physical defensemen, meaning a tough-guy. He is slow, takes bad penalties, and doesn’t have good puck-handling skills. The Isles needed toughness and it’s what they got in Erskine.

    Erskine>Cairns, but only slightly better.

  43. tannerpeake says:

yea, erskine is basically inept with the puck. his best play is chipping the puck out of reach of anyone to an unoccupied area of the ice. theres a reason he has ZERO points this season. he wont replace niinimaa, supposedly the isles are bringing in a prospect. erskine may be the 7th dman, dressed when they need a fighter, or he might be sent to the AHL (think he still has a 2-way contract…), but i doubt he will be a regular.
