Hodgson ready to wing it
t seemed like since the middle of summer people were speculating where Cody Hodgson would land once Ryan Kesler returned from hip labrum surgery.
Third line? Fourth? Chicago Wolves?
On Tuesday against the New York Rangers he’ll be playing right wing on a line with Kesler and Chris Higgins – which is much less of a issue for Hodgson than many would have thought.
Hodgson, a natural centre who played in the middle when he was CHL major junior player of the year in 2009, was bemused by all the questions on Monday following practice regarding the challenges of shifting from centre to the wing.
“I’ve played wing in the past,” said Hodgson, a right-hand shot. “I’m not averse to it. I played wing some games last season in Manitoba (AHL). You always watch in practice what the wingers do so you can be ready. I’m pretty comfortable playing that position. It doesn’t really affect me that much.”
The way Hodgson has played in the Canucks first five games, he’s ready for the opportunity of working with an elite talent like Kesler.. Now that his back troubles are behind him, he’s impressed with being strong along the boards and having extra jump that wasn’t evident last season.
