Hull signs with Coyotes

TFP has learned that the Phoenix Coyotes have signed unrestricted free agent Brett Hull to a two-year contract.

Hull, who turns 40 on Aug. 9, was being courted by the Coyotes, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Pittsburgh Penguins.

“Brett Hull is one of the most talented goal scorers in NHL history,” said Coyotes GM Mike Barnett. “He is a dynamic player who creates excitement every time he enters the offensive zone. He has contributed significantly to winning Stanley Cups in both Detroit and Dallas. We not only look forward to the experience and passion he will bring to his teammates here in Phoenix but also to the pure entertainment he will provide to our fans.”

In 81 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season, Hull registered 25 goals and 43 assists.

Hull, who ranks third all-time in goals, has played in 1264 career NHL games, ac*****ulating 741 goals and 649 assists.

Hull was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 6th round (117th overall) of the 1984 Entry Draft.

Hull ranks 2nd on the NHL’s all-time list in power play goals with 265, trailing only Dave Andreychuk by five power play goals (270). He ranks 3rd on the NHL’s all-time list in game winning goals with 110, trailing only Howe (121) and Phil Esposito (118). Hull is 1st on the NHL’s all-time playoff list in power play goals (38) and tied for 1st on the NHL’s all-time playoff list in game winning goals (24). He is 18th on the NHL’s all-time points list (8th among active players), 48th on the all-time assists list (19th among active players) and 43rd on the all-time games played list (15th among active players). Hull also ranks 6th on the NHL’s all-time playoff points list (2nd among active players), 15th on the all-time games played list (5th among active players) and T-28th on the all-time playoff assists list (T-12th among active players). His .510 goal-per-game playoff average ranks 15th all-time (among players with at least 20+ career playoff goals). Hull is now 10 points shy of becoming the 17th player in NHL history with at least 1,400 points.

The coyotes just raised in my prediction standings although they wont be re realeased till next week. Also this opens the market for other big names.

  2. Lint07 says:

I heard that The Hockey News has changed the release date for their standing predictions right after you announced that yours wasn’t released til next week. The word on the streets is they’re waiting to see how you’ll rank the Leafs before making any official release…

Who would’ve thought making standing predictions in the month of july would have so much influence in the world of hockey?!?

Just messing with you, kid. 😉

new uni’s, new arena, great free agent signings, 2 goalie’s with something to prove…..this group looks like a good chance to see the playoffs……too bad we won’t see a season…..

  4. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

the yotes built their new arena in BFE and they (like ottawa) will need to get people to come out to see their team. Phoenix is NOT a hockey town and they do not have a winning tradition. Hull, if he was to really keep scoring up a storm might help put asses in seats and sell jersies. This is worth the price of admission much like bringing recchi back to Pitts was. (I still think the Pens should have just played the kids with Mario and stay in the running for Crosby).

Other teams shouldn’t be pulling out their hair about missing out on a 40 year old Brett Hull. If the Yotes don’t really kill next year – he will likely be available in a salary dump. If Nagy and Doan really come into their own – WATCH OUT Phoenix could be a playoff team. It is NOT impossible.

  5. Lint07 says:

Nice to see we have the same opinion on what the Pens should do next season…

I’ve almost been ripped appart by basically all the Pens fans when I said that in another thread! 🙂

If the Caps play it smart and try to land Crosby next season to team him up with Ovechkin, add to that the solid defensive core they now have, it could get freakin scary in DC!

  6. LeafyMcLeaf says:

Is it me or is this the first time in a while you have commented?

  7. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

    Its you…

I wrote an article about a poll just 2 days ago and it ran on HTR.

Basically, I am jonesing for hockey BAD. I have been throwing in my skewed west coast opinion on all sorts of shit. I am actually thinking of getting a few more accounts so I can be like that guy electro. He is funny (sort of).

THIS past year was the Flyers year. Tampa got *****ING LUCKY (yes I say LUCKY) that the Flyers were so injured. Bitter is MY middle name and I need to vent. 🙂

    YAY he gone from Detriot!

  9. big_booty says:

“You call Detroit, tell dem ‘bullsheet.'”

  10. big_booty says:

Don’t get me started. I just moved to Tampa and have to put up with so much crap it’s unbelieveable.

  11. big_booty says:

As I’ve said before, the Phoenix Coyotes are the NHL’s franchise equivalent of a cattle chute.

I seriously question the motives of this signing. This team simply has no clue when it comes to the operations of a hockey club.

It is safe to say that you can expect Hull, Ricci, and company to go the way of Tony Amonte in their Phoenix tenures.

sound’s like you guys are a little jelous ,If If If .

What if the Oilers would have kept a 28 year old Gretzky and that whole group of hall of famers they would still be winning the cup.

What if’s fade as facts stay

    Congrats to the BOLTS

    Bubbles out…….

  13. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

If your owner didn’t go broke in oil and kept his hockey buisness separate – he could have kept Gretzky.

It turns out 99 going to LA was a GREAT thing for hockey because it takes a player like that to make the LA market pay attnetion to the sport.

Thanks to Tampa winning the cup and as proven by the TV ratings – NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE SPORT of HOCKEY. It will get worse with a lockout. If the Flyers had won there would have been more than 6k people at the parade.

  14. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

At least the broads in Tampa don’t all still look like Cindy *****ing Laper. You have seen them in Philly with their bangs glued striaght in the sky with enough aquanet to make Poison proud. Sporting a nice cheessteak inspired gut and wearing some nice little outfit they got from the Depford mall. Honey – put those NOCHOs down and hit the gym! 🙂

  15. jgibbs32 says:

i hoped the pens would sign him

  16. BayStBully says:

Another jem from Mr. Jokes himself…..*cough*

  17. BayStBully says:

Broads in Philly all look like Bobby Clarke….and Jeremy Roenick looks like Skeletor from He-Man

  18. Enigma says:

Too bad a great player like Hull is going to end his career on a team that probably has one of the smallest fan basis in all of hockey.

  19. BayStBully says:

I would like to submit my vote for funniest guy on HTR….ME! I am clearly very funny with my posts and am fearless when it comes to making fun of Administrators (like Linty, when he realized how badly I was embarrassing him in the forums he runs away and suspends my account instead of standing up for himself. Typical, I suppose, of somebody who is unfortunately named MARCO) while most of you pansies kiss ass. (Except for Goblin, Nocuphere and perhaps golding)

  20. LeafyMcLeaf says:

Sorry but Lint07 kicks your ass at humor on this site.

  21. BayStBully says:

Ass kisser, I bet if you had the chance you’d do a lot more to his ass than just kiss it.

  22. Lint07 says:

Now get your head out of you ass and stop crying. How old are you, 12?

Hopefully you’ll get suspended again so you’ll start crying some more…

Ahhh the joy of internet, where anybody can pretend to be someone! You’re on a hockey message board pal, nobody cares how cool you are. Give it a rest, tough guy.

  23. LeafyMcLeaf says:

I am keeping my eye out for Electro and his next sudenim. And you made my list of suspicious people.

  24. Lint07 says:

Unfortunately for you, they were never in the race. It was another ploy used by the Hull entourage to boost the offers of the Stars and Coyotes.

He basically used the Pens just like he did with the Habs about 3 years ago, just before signing with Detroit.

  25. BayStBully says:

Maybe you didn’t suspend me personally, but I’ll bet that you went crying to those who can….Don’t worry, if I were an admin and somebody was embarrassing me to this extent, I might consider it too…not like you have much of a choice. Except maybe get some of your buddies to help, but so far that’s also been futile. Grow a set brother, stop tattle-taleing

  26. Lint07 says:

    Who’s crying here, again?

I couldn’t care less about kids like you, I’ve been here for long enough to know that when you’ll be gone someone even dumber and even less original than you (yes, that’s possible) will take your place…. Just like you did when you replaced the unfunny spammer before you.

That’s the way it goes, there’s nothing I can do about it, except to acknowledge that everything you’re doing has been done many times before and has been done way better too, so if you’ll excuse me I’ll just go on with my life and continue ignoring you.

You’re not fooling anybody, you know. You’re a waste of time and once in a while someone with 30 seconds of free time will hand you your ass over, again.

…and the world keeps on moving.

  27. LeafyMcLeaf says:

I agree with Lint. Morons like you are always around. There was the Electro and what ever other names he’s got saga. Then there was breifly that ALMO-TML guy who I think was again Electro. And now you who also could be Electro. I am as tired as everyone of these lame dumb ass’s who come up with old and boring insults to try to defowl the good name of this site.

  28. FlamesRock says:

  29. ALMO-TML says:

    I LOVE IT!

  30. yotes17 says:

The Coyotes do not have the smallest fan base in hockey, and to all of you bashing the yotes, they made the playoffs for 6 straight years when they moved to the valley,

they have missed only 3 times in 9 years, they will be back.

    Enough Said.
