I wouldn't want Brisbois, but someone may want an experienced guy as back up insurance for the powerplay. As Far as Smolinski's no trade clause. If a serious playoff contender made a legitimate offer for him, he may waive that clause to get one last kick at the can. Others have done it!

What to do...what to do. One minute I think that the HABS could beat anyone in the league. The next minute their getting their asses handed to them by the Sens. Faceoffs - A MUST! I think it was the second goal that got that snowball rolling for the Sens was due to losing another faceoff. Can we please get that missing link. We need to get some grit and faceoff power. As I read these posts I can't help but question the lack of interest in O. Jokinen. Does he not fit the needs of this team? Faceoffs, leadership, grit? well not so much the grit part but there are others that could fill the grit role. I want Jokinen in a HABS jersey so that Koivu and have some finnish funk to dish out! C'mon Bobby G. - make some noise, the Sens are at the mic already!

I don't see Gainey letting O'Byrne go. Too many guys keep trying to get Komisarek out of games and O'Byrne can take some of that attention away from Komisarek. How many 6' 5" 240 pound decent d-men are there out there anyway!!

Tanguay is paid too much and doesn't bring any grit. He tends to stay away from the tough areas. Mtl doesn't need a perimiter player!!

Besides Tanguay has said many times, he does not WANT to play for MTL!!!!

First off, MTL has a BIG tough d-man in O'Byrne. They are hard to find and he was doing well before he broke his finger. You don't trade young stud d-men like him. Also you have to watch that you don't destroy the chemistry that has ben built this year! It is one thing to take people out that aren't on the roster, but to give up so many players, not smart!

I do agree that an expensive sniper is probably not the way to go, unless you get one with lots of grit and moxy. I don't see anyone who fits that description as being available. Extra strength up the middle and a replacement for Ryder, who I would trade is probably all the tinkering they need right now. There are a few good prospects coming that will keep Mtl in the playoffs and contending for the cup within a couple of years. Why give it away for a shot this year!

Price needs a bit more time and having Huet for another year would keep the stability. Halak would make a good trade player. For those who don't think a 3rd line defensive face-off specialist is needed or valuable, think Jarvis. Mtl pulled a shrewed move to get him from Toronto as they understood his value!

Stoll if his concussion problems are behind him, and Torres, for next season, would give Mtl the face-off strenth and some talented grit. If they could get them for Chipchura and Ryder, that woudn't give up the future of affect the chemistry.

Maybe all they need to do is try to get Legwand from Nashville. He is big enough and one of the fastest guys in the league. Ona line with Higgins and S. Kostistsyn, they could give other teams fits traying to keep up. legwand would fit with the team Gainey and Carbo are trying to build and he is only 27. If MTL could trade Grabovski, Ryder, and the rights to Perezogin for him, it would be fair. Then Koivu could play on the third line and give it an offensive upgrade.

At that point Smolinski may be a guy to trade to a team who wants depth for the playoffs, Brisbois should go to. A 5th round pick would be fair. He is still too much of a liability and with O'Byrne and Gorges playing well, and Emelin and Valentenko soon to be ready, Mtl could afford to let Brisbois go. Especially with Dandenault and Streit around and both being able to play upfront and on D.
