This is the Leafs team.]]>
Why would developing potential talent be a terrible thing? This article hasn’t convinced me, and hasn’t brought any new information to the table that isn’t already in the minds of most logical leaf fans: Trade up.
I’m sorry, but that isn’t very groundbreaking. I don’t recall most Leaf fans saying the youth is untouchable. Obviously if we get a good return then a trade should be in order! But have we not learned something from the Leetch and Nolan deal? The fact is, Steen’s stock isn’t very high right now. He’s young, unproven and in a slump. Having said that, we haven’t seen his upside yet, which could pay dividends when we are actually in a POSITION to win the Cup, not when we are toiling in the bottom of the Eastern Conference! As for myself I CAN cite precedent in Frederik Modin, whom now looks like a very capable player that we traded away.
If we don’t rebuild now, the team will be in the same position for years without any significant improvement. We even NEED significant drafted players in ORDER to trade up.
In closing, I have to say that this article is not up to your standard Leafy. This is more of a final grasp to keep the Maple Leaf ideal that we actually have a chance to win in the next few years without drafting high. It’s about time we were all disillusioned.]]>
