you want to give up Franson, Kulemin, Gunnarsson and Frattin for 2 low 1st round picks? No chance in hell.

I could understand giving up guys like MacArthur and Bozak to get a low 1st rounder since they are UFA and we are losing anyway but don't give up 4 decent young NHL players for draft picks that have a 50/50 shot of turning into NHL players. Very bad idea.

Ya I agree about Kessel. I think Carlyle is going to do wonders for him and turn him into a responsible two-way player in a way the Ron Wilson never could. Wilson's system of publicly ridiculing Kessel didn't payoff, who would have guess it?

Carlyle seems like a coach who communicates well with his players, as evidenced last year when he had that "what's wrong, guys" talk with the team during their terrible slide. Something Wilson never contemplated.

I would prefer Barkov to Monahan personally. But I here you and while he may not be tanking which I don't actually believe in, he at least letting the kids play this will cause us to have a bottom five finish, IMO. It will also allow us to see what areas need the most addressing.

At the beginning of a normal 82 game season I would not be saying this but at the beginning a 48 game season, who cares? even though we only played one game and we actually won, I still say we should tank.

Nonis may not want too but if he were smart he would, especially if we isn't under a lot of pressure to make the playoffs. GM's who tank on purpose are taking the coward approach but Nonis may not have to try that hard considering the team may finish 12th-15th in the conference.

The leafs weakest position is centre and this years draft is as deep in the centre position as its been in the last 5 years. if they finish low enough they can grab MacKinnon or if not than at least Monohan, and if Nonis trades some roster players at the deadline for 1st round picks than he can grab 1 or 2 of Lindholm, Nichushkin, Lazar, Shinkaruk, Gauthier, Wennberg, Hovart, Compher, Domi

To a playoff contending team:
Franson, Kulemin

To Tor:
1st round pick in 2013(Gauthier)

To another playoff contending team:
Gunnarsson, Frattin

To Tor:
1st round pick in 2013(Domi)

At the end of the 1st round we can have MacKinnon/Monohan, Gauthier, Domi to add to Colborne and McKegg. That should make our Centre depth a lot stronger.

Then at that point I would say we can stop putting so much emphasis on getting younger rebuilding and start trading some of our prospects for more NHL ready players.

next season's line up:

Lupul - MacKinnon/Monohanv - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kadri
Komarov - Bozak - MacArthur
Brown - MccLement - Broll

Phaneuf - Rielly
Gardiner - Kostka
Liles - Holzer
