    sjostrom to flames.

    2 yr 750K per

  3. mojo19 says:

First team all-stars are the players picked by the hockey writers at the end of the season who were the best in their positions. Good joke, but you meant to say Hamerlik just became a starter at the All-Star game.

  4. nordiques100 says:

question is r they better than higs, koivu, kovalev, tanguay, lang who are all gone.

i say i rather have schneider and komi on D than spacek and gill.

they need another forward for sure.

they should try and go after clowe. and try to get another ornery tough forward.

another big body like taylor pyatt wouldnt be bad either. not sure if the cash is still left to do that though…

  5. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

IMO the leafs need a center. One of Koivu/Lang/Antropov but only for a 1 year deal.

  6. mojo19 says:

Colton Orr will be okay, and $1million is nothing.

Penner is a bad contract, but not a bad player. Smid is solid, nothing special, but Cogliano is a great pickup in the deal. Andrew C is what makes the deal worth while for the Sens, but I still think Sens fans expected more, like a 1st round pick or a star player back.

As for Montreal, their best players during the first half of last year when they were winning were Lang and Tanguay, they haven't been re-signed yet. I haven't read anything official on Kovalev, and Koivu is up in the air.

  7. mojo19 says:

That would be cool. How about two minor leaguers (no one special) to Washington for Nylander and a draft pick.

  8. TheLeafNation91 says:

reinjosh…hes playing for ron wilson, you just dont turn over and die with Wilson

  9. TheLeafNation91 says:

    I say keep him…

  10. TheLeafNation91 says:

i know you wanted cammelieri mojo…But this fits into our plans better

  11. TheLeafNation91 says:

i know you wanted cammelieri mojo…But this fits into our plans better

  12. TheLeafNation91 says:

Do you think he is trying to destroy the Habs because he wants to get fired? Sabotage? Because Cammy was decent, but I think he went over the top today!

  13. Komic-J says:

Looks like Gainey is done shopping for forwards…wants to add another D-Man, and that's it.

So I guess Gomez will play between Gionta and Cammalleri, leaving Plekanec on our second line with the Kostitsyn brothers. Wish we could shop Plekanec elsewehre for a D-Man, and sign Antropov to play AK and SK.

On defense, there's not much left. Morris and Mara would be cool, but I expect a Seidenberg or a Kurtis Foster.

  14. TheLeafNation91 says:

No…I like his idea…Because then they can be deadline bait

  15. mojo19 says:

    Leaving New Jersey today:
Clemmenson (its ok, still marty and Weekes)

    ……no one yet.

Now we've seen New Jersey let guys walk before. From Holik, to Mogilny, Scott Gomez, Brian Rafalski, Scotty Niedermyer.

When have they ever gone out and signed a big name? Zubrus is the biggest signing that comes to mind. Yet somehow they'll stay competitive, (even if Brodeur gets hurt for half the year, proven this past season). Gotta respect the Devils.

  16. cam7777 says:

let's just bring sundin back for one last year.  antropov wants too much money now at 5 million dollars, and lang is better hidden behind better centermen.  Koivu will sign with the Wild, or a better team.  Can't see him signing with the Leafs just out of spite for the Habs.

sundin actually fits now.  he's big, he'll make a lot of room for all the young guys that are going to get cycled through the roster (tlusty, kulemin, kadri, bozak, etc…).

let's find a taker for blake (New Jersey?) and bring back our captain.

  17. mojo19 says:

Sorry, I thought Nylander only had a year left. I figure you get a pick from Washington to pick up his contract (like Atlanta with Schneider last year), then you flip him at the deadline for more. So you win twice in this scenario.

  18. mojo19 says:

Mats Sundin, I wouldn't mind it at all.

  19. MTL_HABS_24 says:

A few months ago some of you (you know who you are – it's unfortunate the archives aren't available or I could actually name names) were laughing at Habs fans because Komisarek went to the All-Star game because he wasn't worthy of the honour. He was a bum who was only added to the list because the ASG was in Montreal.

Today, following the announcement that Mike signed in Toronto, he magically turned into a "top-4 shutdown guy in the prime of his career".

Imagine that. All it takes is for a player to sign in Hogtown to wondrously transform himself into a much better player than he was before.

There are some impartial people on HTR and it's great to read their insightful comments, but there are a few wack-job homers (you know who you are) who make me want to vomit with their unimaginative, biased tripe.

  20. nordiques100 says:

as per the globe and mail, here is the leafs payroll

Mike Komisarek $4,500,000 Tomas Kaberle $4,250,000 Vesa Toskala $4,000,000 Jason Blake $4,000,000 Jeff Finger $3,500,000 Niklas Hagman $3,000,000 Luke Schenn $2,975,000 Mike Van Ryn $2,900,000 Lee Stempniak $2,500,000 Alexei Ponikarovsky $2,105,000 Matt Stajan $1,750,000 Nikolai Kulemin $1,487,500 Garnet Exelby $1,391,700 Jamal Mayers $1,333,300 Jonas Frogren $1,065,000 Colton Orr $1,000,000 Tyler Bozak $875,000 Christian Hanson $875,000 Ian White $850,000 Viktor Stalberg $750,000 John Mitchell $487,500 Colin Stuart $483,300 Tucker buyout $1,000,000 Raycroft buyout $533,333
they have lots of flexibility with 9 mil of cap space right now, probably will have roughly 6 once grabs signs.
they still have 6 UFAs on their roster to move between now and the trade deadline. and the likes of bozak, hanson, stahlberg, frogren listed above are no sure things for the roster.i have to believe finger is gone after the events of today.

  21. cam7777 says:

i hope they ask burke about jason blake….

  22. cam7777 says:

What the hell are the Minnesota Wild doing in all of this?  They have done nothing all day, and they had a lot of work to do to that team.  You would think signing Saku Koivu would have been easy enough, with his own brother making the pitch.

I guess they are one of these teams preoccupied by the Heatley sweepstakes.  They better hope they win out, or they will be a day behind in signing new players.

they need to trade for heatley, sign koivu, and deal harding for a nice return, and then start looking for rfa's to pluck (ie. Kyle Wellwood).

  23. careyprice31 says:

They have 9 mil left to spend. Bob in his press conference tonight said hes almost done he just wants to add another d man. However i feel anoher trade could be brewing and halak and pleks maybe even srgei K are gonna find themselves out of Montreal.

  24. cam7777 says:

I actually think Finger could garner some interest from some of the richer teams.  Let's say for example that Detroit decided to trade away Brad Stuart to free up some room, and a roster spot for Jonathan Ericsson (and perhaps Jakub Kindl in the near future).  How nice would it be to have a similar player that you can take in and out of the roster at your leisure, like Jeff Finger and his 2-way deal.  I'm not suggesting Finger for Stuart by the way, just proposing a scenario where someone like Finger would prove effective.

On that note, it might be nice for the Leafs to keep him for that purpose…

  25. Rico420 says:

    Everyone take note of this

IF FRANCOIS BEAUCHEMIN SIGNS FOR 3.8 million per season I will have intercourse with habswinthecup-agains Mom.

Give me a break – Bob just rebuilt the entire defense core today.

  26. careyprice31 says:

I dont know I kind of like what he did. At least im seeing some changes, some new type of direction if u wanna put it that way. Will have to wit and see i guess. At least bob is finally working. I still think they are going to make a trade imo. If u wanna compete pleks cant be your second line center. I would have loved to see Nik antropov sign with the habs. anyways positive thing is i dont think hes done yet and will have to wait and see what else he will do.

  27. Rico420 says:

Don't worry pezz someone will hate on this signing somewhere along the line.

  28. cam7777 says:

If Gustavsson signs here, you would have to think we start to look pretty attractive to him as well.

If Burke were able to acquire a few of the following by the end of the summer, I would consider this an ideal off-season:

    Ryane Clowe
    Cam Barker
    Mats Sundin
    Blake Wheeler
    Steve Bernier

-signing Sundin should be easy enough
-Clowe and Barker are very available.  Assets that can be used to acquire them – VanRyn, Stajan, Grabovski, Stralman, Stempniak, Mayers and cap space (ie. taking back money)

    Get it done Burke!

  29. mojo19 says:

You're right. I'm confused too, if Chuck were anything like his dad he would have at least made a couple minor moves today. But who's to say he hasn't made any offers? Maybe players aren't interested in Minnesota. Advantage Toronto, with Jason Blake to dangle out there.

  30. mojo19 says:

Finger's 2-way contract is an interesting one.

And ya you guys are right, lots of room to play with. I imagine the Leafs will stay well under the cap limit, 365 days from now will be Xmas in Toronto.

  31. Elite_Destruction says:

Havlat has a verbal agreement with the Wild

  32. cwthrash says:

not underrated, more like unproven.  He played 30 or so games last year.  Good on the PK, nice speed, good checker.  But he is 27 and just breaking into the NHL.  Won't be any more than a third line checker at his peak.  Not a bad guy to have around for sure, but there are many, many in the league like him.  Still, if he plays like he did back in January and February; Toronto fans will like him.  Just don't expect much in the way of offense.

  33. mojo19 says:

    Clowe would be nice.
    Barker for sure!
    Bernier, not too interested
    Sundin, yes
Wheeler, I see Boston keeping. To save money they will do their best to move Schaeffer, and I think Marco Sturm would be one to go before Blaker Wheeler.

  34. Rico420 says:

Thank God I'm not the only one

Gomez at center is a huge upgrade

    We brought back Kovalev

Gionta and Gomez have history together

Cammy is the best goal scorer we've had in the organization for 15 years

Gil is fairly brutal but basically does the same job as Komisarek for a decent price.

Spacek will be the gun we missed on the powerplay last season.

Bob did a good job today – he got some reliable guys for the D, filled out the top 2 lines and the Habs can roll out 4 lines that are reliable – got a couple guys who could score 40 goals..resigned Kovalev, the only move he didn't make that I would have liked to have seen was bring in Clemmer to back up Price – but I won't complain.

  35. mojo19 says:

    haha, speaking of which….

  36. nordiques100 says:

both kostitsyns. possibly gorges, halak and even pleks depending on how the rfa negotiations go.

they have 5 d now, plus maybe a spot for weber with subban knocking on the door.

they need another forward. with pleks and a kos, they also have pacman, gionta, cammy and gomez as top 6 forwards. not good enough.

love for them to pick up weekes. thats the backup u need for price. not another rookie like halak.

  37. the_word says:

Burke is like Parker Lewis, can't lose. Another bad deal ducked.

  38. Rico420 says:

Is Kovalev really a done deal?

    I haven't found anything.

  39. TheLeafNation91 says:

The thing I realized the most though was are these the missing pieces that the Habs needed? These are great pick ups by Montreal but the problem for the last two years have been team size! And Montreal just got smaller, and weaker, instead of bigger and tougher like every hockey fan predicted this offseason~

  40. the_word says:

Does Exleby's contract expire after this year? Haven't been able to find the term of his deal, everything I read says 'signed a multi-year deal in 07'.

Mike is our highest paid player? Foundation set, one more top five pick, land the monster then we can buy ourselves some elite talent next year to the day.

Just curious because you like to play the skeptic Nords, how would you rate Burke's performance?

  41. mojo19 says:

A veteran backup/mentor is what they need for Price. Even a 1A goalie who can take over as starter if Price goes through struggles.

Options: Manny Fernandez, Marty Biron, Manny Legace (not sure if he has it anymore), Olaf Kolzig (probably retire), Marty Gerber.

  42. Komic-J says:

    No…it's not.
I don't know why it's still upthere. Looks like he's not coming back to Montreal, Gainey apparently shift his focus to D-Man, and isn't looking to add another forward for now.

  43. mojo19 says:

Exelby has one year left on his deal at $1.7 roughly, but cap hit is closer to $1.4.

    Nords doesn't seem negative today!

  44. Komic-J says:

    No…it's not.
I don't know why it's still upthere. Looks like he's not coming back to Montreal, Gainey apparently shift his focus to D-Man, and isn't looking to add another forward for now.

  45. nordiques100 says:

    who's left? a basic list…..NOT COMPLETE

  46. WE-DeusEx says:

Looks like pittsburgh is in a tough spot right now. losing alot of their D

7 players alone costing them 40million..OUCH

Penguins have less then 5 million to play with, and fedetenko, Scuderi, Satan and Sykora have yet to be signed….

  47. Rico420 says:

Guess that means Laps is gonna be wearing the C next season in Montreal.

I can't see Markov getting it – he's not really the right kind of guy for the Captain's letter.

  48. the_word says:

Gainey would have resigned Lang but Lang wants a two year deal. Antropov clearly not an option and Koivu I assume wants a multi year deal.

  49. Elite_Destruction says:

My opinion Burke should throw a contract at Goc he's only 25, he has so much potential, just really didn't get no time in SJ, he was drafted 20th overall also, i think he could turn out to be a good solid player, that's my opinion though, I'm really surprised SJ didn't give him a qualifying offer.

  50. nordiques100 says:

loved the moves today. they arent squished cap wise by any means going forward.

that was the concern going in, but they still can get rid of their 6 UFAs by the deadline, blakes deal becomes much more palatable after this year, finger they can kick to the curb. burying salary on the farm isnt an issue with this team.

their top player, kaberle, is still around, and very affordable. and now worth keeping.

they've addressed the needs and wants burke has said all along. you cant argue against actually following through on what you are saying. the previous regimes were all over the map. here, burke seems to be putting together a good plan for now and tomorrow.

its clear now why kadri was picked over cowen. komi and exelby i guess were on the radar and address the needs for big blueliners to help schenn. plus, they arent greybeards.

this is what i've wanted for toronto. direction. we have it now. still a ton of pieces left to fill, but today, its not moves for the sake of making them.
