GOOD!! PAY THE GUY!! He’s only one of the most exciting players in hockey!! Why not pay him what he wants?

  2. Freeze says:

Wow, $6.5 million per…and he didn’t even need to win anything.

  3. wingerxxx says:

    It’s about flippin time.

  4. GretzNYR99 says:

Don’t believe it until you see it.

3 Weeks ago they said he was about 1 million a year off a new deal. At the start of this week, they had him as good as done for the year.

These guys are guessing as to what happens, they know as much as we do… jack shit.

Don’t jump the gun, and wait until the final hour.

Kinda hard to give in to players financial demands when you still have the rest of the team to think about in my opinion…. even if it is they’re best player…. kinda defeats the purpose of leaving cap room for expiring contracts and trade deadline playoff depth additions.. that is if they make it to the big dance

  6. Lint07 says:

…and who’s gonna see him in Pittsburgh on the 27th?

    YAHHH!

I was starting to worry he wouldn’t sign before our road trip to Pittsburgh but now I’m happy!

  7. titans says:

You wanna build a winner Kovalchuk is the foundation which to build around.

  8. JScottLeRoi says:

    Great move. Long overdue.

One question, though. Where does this put them for the cap? Last I checked, they were at like $31.8mil. This would end them up at around 38-38.5 right? Looks like they’ll have to give up actual players if they’re still shopping for a goalie.

  9. mcpickl says:

    OOOOOOH easy one.

    because theres a salary cap.

  10. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

its already been announced……. do you follow hockey at all?

  11. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

goalie???? kari lehtonen will do fine lol guy played 5 games last year won all 5, 2 shutouts and less then a 2.0 gaa

  12. Rico71 says:

They are 275 000$ under the cap if I’m guessing right.

This guy is greedy beyond imagination. Russian players have it now…make believe you’ll play in Russia and make the teams pay you want you want ala Datsiuk.

Wow. Welcome to the new NHL.

  13. JScottLeRoi says:

Atlanta already confirmed that they offered Buffalo a 2nd round pick for Noronen before the season started, Buffalo “did not get back to them quick enough” so they signed on Dunham. They’re not looking for a starter. Lehtonen is their guy, but right now they need someone to fill in for him while he’s hurt, and be there for depth long term.

  14. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

good point forgot about lehtonen being hurt.

  15. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

kovalchuk is worth every penny of that money. he had noone to help him last year and he was tied for 1st in the art ross. datsyuk is greedy after 1 good season hah i want to see him do SH** all this year so i can laugh at detroit.

Kovalchuk means more to Atlanta than just his supreme hockey skills. Now that Heatley is gone, he’s the face of the Thrashers, whose fans are getting to that ‘honeymoon’s over’ stage in their team’s development. Getting Kovalchuk signed has guaranteed that Atlanta will now make the playoffs and give their fans their first taste of the postseason. It’s obviously a lot easier to sell season tickets and generate advertising revenue if your team is a contender. Couple that with Kovalchuk’s talent and that’s got to be worth more to the team brass than the $33Mil they shelled out for him.

His little holdout helped me pick him up in the 4th round of my hockey pool so I’m not complaining.

  17. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

i honestly thought it would take longer so i didnt take him. meh who am i to complain in my hockey pool i got iginla naslund bertuzzi heatley as my top forwards.

  18. johnnymouthpiece says:

Missed out on Heatley by one measley pick. Wanted him to go along with Spezza… Oh well.
