This is a good thing, why waste a buyout, when said buyout has no next year term and would count against this years cap anyway. On a different note, wish there was room for frattin, he plays hard. But glad rielly was sent back down, a longer camp may have gearnered him a season start, but it is the right thing to do for his long term development, IMO.

Ya. I would like to see Bozak and MacArthur moved at the deadline if we can get a decent enough return. Both will be rentals, so 2nd rounder, or maybe a half decent prospect and later pick would be okay.

Then depending on how the season is going maybe we move Kadri up at that point and give him more minutes. Again, who the hell knows, it really depends on how the season unfolds.

Until a) Kadri proves himself or b) JVR is eventually turned into a centre, I doubt Bozak being moved right away.

There is very little centre depth in terms of centres who can be even below average, never mind credible on one of the top two lines. And with such a quick startup to the season, Carlyle will lean on past chemistry to get the team going.

So for now, i see him staying.

The Connolly move was like i said above, cleaning up the Burke mess. Not necessarily a prelude to a bigger move.

Though not a Burke “mess”, I do think MacArthur won’t last the year as a Leaf. Not because he is a bad player, but more to open the door to another young player like Frattin.

Seems like it. The minimum wage plus an additional 370,000 is covered. So, I suppose 3.6 would be carried to the leafs if they put Connolly down in the minors.

BURIED CONTRACTS (Wade Redden Rule)
Money paid to players outside of the NHL counts against the cap.
A one-way contract counts against the cap as follows:
cap hit – [ minimum salary + $375,000 ]
Example: If Wade Redden plays in the minors in 2012-13, he counts as follows.
$6.5M – [ $525,000 + $375,000 ] = $5.6M
A two-way contract counts as follows:
minor-league salary – [ minimum salary + $375,000 ]
Example: Player A’s two-way contract pays $3M/$1M in 2012-13 and counts as follows in the minors.
$1M – [ $525,000 + $375,000 ] = $100,000

Up to 900k or 1 million will not count against the cap, from what I heard.

Oh, hey guys, I have a question. I thought I had heard that under the new CBA players who were sent to the minors would still have their salaries count against the cap. Is this true, are there exceptions/loop holes? Can anyone shed some light?

So if Connolly is demoted will his $4.75 cap hit stay with the team?
