Leafs Connolly out 10-14 days

The injury bug continues to bite Toronto Maple Leafs centre Tim Connolly.

Connolly missed practice on Monday and head coach Ron Wilson told reporters that the veteran is out 10 days to two weeks with an upper-body injury sustained on Saturday.

Connolly, who signed as a free agent in the summer, started the year on injured reserve and missed eight games with an upper-body injury.

Tyler Bozak took Connolly’s spot on the first line with Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul during Monday’s practice. Connolly has four points in six games this season.

Ya I forgot how big Backstroms cap hit is. The went back to him last night despite Hardings strong play, you know this guy is their number 1. So if moving Harding improves the team in other areas I think he could be had espcially if he's looking for 2+ mil in the off-season.

Harding would be a great fit on the Leafs. Cmon Cliff have a sit down with your boy.

Well ya ok I guess stellar is maybe pushing it, but they do have 2 very talented goalies. Very few goalies hold incredible value anyways. The Wild would deal from their position of strength (goaltending) and the Leafs from theirs (depth).

  3. hockey_lover says:

    Its all in context.

You cant label a player "stellar" then turn around and say "nothing from our core should go."  Then turn around and say "oh but he isnt a superstar."  Well, which is it?

If I said Kessel is stellar and the Pens should try and get him for nothing from our core, id get blasted over the coals.  "Hey Kessel for Aaron Asham and Alex Picard and a 1st."

Even if the player is a rental (and in this case, it isnt), if he is a "stellar" player, a big return is going to be wanted. You cant call a goalie a rental if he is going to be 6 out of 7 months in a season.

you did mention the kessel deal!!  i can read just fine gaypleleafsfan.

  5. glotz_99 says:

Instead of trading for Sam Gagner like mojo suggested, how about working out a deal with Columbus. Derick Brassard has been mentioned in rumors before and had decent numbers last year with 17 goals, 30 assists for 47 points (similar to Gagner's numbers).  I could see Burkie picking up Sammy Pahlsson from them as a salary dump as well.

    Maybe something like:

Brassard, Pahlsson, 2nd rd pick for Bozak, Franson, Juraj Mikus

  6. blaze says:

Ok I'm not going to argue about calling someone stellar making them a superstar. And for the record if you're a hockey fan you should know there is no superstar on Minny.

Generally star players get traded for non-core players anyways. Kessel = picks, Kovalchuk = buncha depth, Thornton = nothing?. Just because core players are not included doesn't mean great value isn't going the other way.

  7. dumbassdoorman says:

By definition UFA's are rentals, not my wording. Also Goalies for whatever reason do not get the return of skaters, just like star dmen go for higher prices on avg then star fwds.

  8. mapleleafsfan says:

I didn't say I didn't mention it, I said I wasn't debating it. I said you were the first one to say the kessel deal sucked, so why would you suggest we trade even more for nash.

After every post to you I'll break it down into really simple terms for you, and maybe throw in some exclamation marks to really help you understand!

    oh here we go….

    1. Absolutely. Having a healthy STARTER is gonna be a key to winning. As long as we have this shitty back up/ 3rd string situation we're in trouble. No one is arguing that.

    2. Absolutely. Thanks for agreeing with me again. I guess we're smoking the same shit cuz I've been hard on Wilson about having terrible special teams, and I've been a big pusher to get Nabokov.

    3. Absolutely, I've been saying that forever. So we're still smoking that same shit. Its good shit isn't it?

    4. Ya. But I would play Schenn a lot more than he's been playing. He's going to have to be a key player to the success of the team, this is a fact. He needs to find his groove, I say baptize by fire. He's played a total of 22 mins in the last 3 games (9.5, press box, 12.5) he'll never find his game that way. Cito Gaston styles – let him play his way out of this slump cuz we need Schenn to be better.

    5. See Bozak comment. Crabb has been solid, so has Lombardi. Fratting came in last night and was just so-so. A healthy Armstrong and Connolly would go a long way right now and that 3rd line would be way better.

    6. Weird comment…. "uncontrollable team" ???

    7. Not so much intensity. They showed a lot of that, its more discipline and defensive zone breakdowns. And terrible breakout plays, which need to start with crisper passes.

    8. Kulemin has shown a ton of intensity and has played amazingly this season. Not sure if you've actually watched any games or are just looking at the stats? But Kuley has been great. Where he's lost it is around the net. He can't bury his chances, but he'll come around.

Anyway's the self-proclaimed "realist" just regurgitates my comments then adds a couple negatives at the end. Big surprise. Anyway's, its not your fault, that's just how your wired. My suggestion to you would be to take a page from my book, or dumbassdoorman, or blaze, and try to look at the big picture and not live on a game by game basis.

  10. mojo19 says:

Bang on doorman. There's a bigger picture. People need to use discretion and put things into perspective. The problem with ppl like theleafnation91 and like 99% of the callers on Leaf Talk with Andy Frost is that they live in a game by game world of analysis, rather than considering the big picture.

  11. mojo19 says:

I'd be down. Pahlsson would be an awesome throw-in to the deal. I'm a huge fan of Sami.

  12. mojo19 says:

Josh Harding is actually a little over rated, or at least he used to be, he hasn't garnered the same hype of a few years ago. But he wouldn't be a bad option to roll the dice on if he could be had for cheap. Wouldn't want to give up much assets for him though.

  13. Boston_Bruins says:

Omark doesn't seem to have much value now though. Of course Corvo doesn't have much either but he did put up 40 points last year.

  14. Boston_Bruins says:

I don't know if we badly need one, but it's definitely somewhat of an issue (especially because of the PP). All of the guys back there can move it decently, but we don't have that one really good guy, you're right.
