Leafs looking at Gagner?
According to Damien Cox the Leafs are sniffing around about Oilers center Sam Gagner. The fact the two could be talking trade makes sense on a few levels. The Leafs are heavy on defenseman and the Oilers have some depth at center with Gagner on the IR, Brule in the AHL, and the starting line up of Horcoff, Belanger, Lander, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (not in any particular order).
Cox suggests the Leafs are looking to move Carl Gunnarsson but Cody Franson isn’t in the opening day roster for the Maple Leafs. Franson is a legit defenseman in the NHL, previously playing for the Nashville Predators behind Weber and Suter, potentially topping out at 35 points. This should be the target for the Oilers. Franson answers a critical need for the Oilers blue line, a capable top 4 minute cruncher.
The Team1260 insider Doug MacLean stated to Dustin Nielson that (to paraphrase) he had be asked by Toronto management types about Sam Gagner. Take it for what it is worth.
