Leafs lose prized prospect
Billy Sweatt, a 21-year-old prospect from Colorado College, officially became an unrestricted free agent when he failed to reach a contract agreement with GM Brian Burke and the Maple Leafs.
Toronto acquired Sweatt’s rights from Chicago in the offseason trade that sent Kris Versteeg to the Leafs
well i guess, “prized” in the eyes of Brian Burke…not long ago Leafs traded Victor Stalberg, Philippe Paradis and Chris DiDimoneco for Chris Versteeg and rights to Billy Sweatt
……………………………………. in other news Leafs sign U.S College star Chris D’Amigo!
D’Amigo is one of the most intriquing prospects in the Leafs system in awhile, in terms of skill+tougness combo
selected in the 6th round of the 2009 draft, The 19-year-old D’Amigo had 34 points (10-24) in 35 games for the Engineers last season. The American was selected to the ECAC All-Rookie Team…… Thats ALOT for a college player
He also played for the U.S. at the world junior championship, tying for third in tournament scoring with 12 points…… one of the Team USA standouts
apparently alot of teams tried to get their hands on him……. in the end even Burke was surprised that he chose to sign as a pro this season.
