The only coaches I can think of who never got canned were Scotty Bowman and Al Arbour.

Scotty's case is most remarkable considering he coached 5 teams and quit each time.

He had to go...It was not working.

Only one coach deserves a lifetime contract and that is Barry Trotz. He has worked with nothing, and continues to produce gold in a conference way tougher then the East.

Lindy Ruff is a great hockey guy. Someone will give that man a job pretty quickly if he wants one.

It will be weird to see a different coach behind the Sabres bench too.

The Sabres D is terrible. They have some talented guys but nothing to write home about. Also the chemistry is completely wrong.

For one thing, they have just one RH defenceman leaving 2 playing their off-side. Its actually more difficult than people realize playing that way.

Secondly, the loss of Tallinder, who was instrumental in helping Myers in his rookie season was bigger than they could ever realize. They in fact also lost Lydman that same summer. Their D has never been the same since. Those two were stabilizing influences back there. With Sekera, Leopold and Ehrhoff, its giveaway central on the Sabres D.

Lastly, Miller hasn't been as good game to game. You see his brilliance most of the time, but he does have more off-nights than before. With how poorly their D is structured, the Sabres can't afford that.

As for up front, they have issues with Stafford just 1 goal and Foligno just 1 goal as well. They expected and need more. The loss of Roy may be bigger than we thought. Maybe not so much on the scoresheet but in the room.

Rolston will have his hands full, but, he has had many guys like Foligno, Hodgson, Ennis, etc play for him in the AHL. So, that could help them.

And they still do have Miller, who can get hot and get them back in it.

A big test for the Leafs then Thursday. They need to bring their A game against a hungry Sabre team who have run out of excuses.

Finally he got canned. Ruff was an institution in Buffalo. The fact that he lasted this long is phenomenal.

Should have won a cup in 2006, if not for untimely injuries against Carolina.

It is possible for sure, I guess we will have to see who is the coach first. Depending on who it is will determine whether or not the current roster will support their style of play? I imagine Regier has a short list in mind as you don't just fire your coach of 15+ seasons.
