Something's wrong with the current CBA when quality NHLers like Markov can't get a decent contract offer from an NHL team and are forced to sign overseas.

2 mil a year? WTF? Why couldn't anyone sign him for 2 mil here? That guys pure quality.

  3. Bruins24 says:

idk either…and he was a +25…he musta been doing something right.

  4. leafy says:

Whenever the puck is along the boards and Markov is fighting for possession against an opposing forward, Markov almost always comes away with the puck.

He's one of the most tenacious defenders I've ever seen.

I thought there was soo little talent in the NHL that teams were forced into putting goons on their teams. So that the only way to get rid of cheap shots was to cut down the number of teams.

Markov is a good player its a shame he couldn't find a home in the NHL.  But Russia aint so bad.

  6. Wings19 says:

WTF!!!!!!!!!!???????????? The Wings offered him 2.5 million and the Penguins offered him just under 3 million. Why the hell would he sign in Russia for only 2?

  8. tacitus says:

because in russia when u sign for 2 million u get all ur 2 million and when you sign in the nhl when you sign for 3 mil you might get 1.8.. when you sign for 2.5 mil you might receive 1.6

  9. habsrock99 says:

The reason he left North America is because he refused to take anything less then 3 million on the dot and from what i can tell, no one wanted to give him 3 million.

  10. senators101 says:

Then why would he settle for 2?

  11. habsrock99 says:

I really don't know. Probably felt insulted or he just out-priced himself like so many European players. Then just went home to play in front of his home fans.

  12. MR40 says:

    4 million per season.

  13. Rico71 says:

Tax free money. Plus he probably got a car and house to go with it.

4M is what? 6M canadian? Not too shabby.

Why not play in Russia for the year? And it seems he was asking for too much $$$. He was +25 in Detroit…I don't think he would have been +25 in LA or St-Louis last year.

He is a good, steady defenseman. I would take him on my team and pair him up with Andrei Markov. I would then put Komisarek with Harmlik.

    Wow.

  14. dcz28 says:

He did something right…got paired off with Lidstrom for the season and tried to sqeeze more money than he's worth because of it.

  15. BruMagnus says:

I'd much rather have shelled out the extra 500K Markov was asking for to have him on the Pens instead of Sydor. Although thankfully Sydor has improved much since the preseason.
