as good as yakupov is i dont think he's leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the drqaft class like that … i mean theres goign to be a number of players who have comparable careers i'd be willing to bet…..Grigs Gal Murray Forsberg are all pretty much in and around the same level as yakupov…. yeah sure he's the clear cut Number 1… but i think when the dust settles it won't seem so clear cut……Oh and Subban plus the third overall would be an easy move if im edmonton…. you have the forward core able to make a move such as that and to bring in Murray and Subban for the future would be KILLER!

I can understand the point that Weber is proven and Yakupov is not, but if that is what all teams were looking for then everyone would be lining up to give their late 1st round picks for players like Steckel or Eager since they are guaranteed NHL players and the 1sts are not only not current NHLers but could possibly never be an NHLer at all.

I think because of Yakupov's potential, if there is a Weber / Yakupov deal, Nashville would have to throw in Colin Wilson and maybe even Ryan Ellis. It seems like too much and maybe it is but 40 goal scorers, even projected 40 goal scorers, are never made available.

Anyway we can agree to disagree on Yakupov's trade value, at least we agree that Edmonton would never trade the pick. lol

I don't buy it. I've met a number of NHL players and a full 50% of them have been massive douche bags. It's just a matter of degrees.

Further when the team finishes dead last in the conference then the last guy I'm going to blame is the guy who might be "playing too hard" in practice.

The dude is trying to do too much and it shows. As for other team members not being able to get a long with him... ***** them. They all get paid millions so they should probably all grow the hell up (including Subban) and put some effort into not being such an embarrasment.

Now granted I don't actually think they will trade Yakupov or trade down. It's not really Tambellini's MO and I don't think he has the cahoonas to do something like that.

Their 2nd rounder, MPS, Gagner? Decent package. Could it get Gormely? I think that would be a great fit for them .

My point is does Yakupov's potential to be a franchise forward outweigh Weber already being a franchise defenseman? In my opinion it doesn't. Weber is an incredible player and even though he isn't getting 60 plus points a season, he's the glue that holds a team together. In my opinion, thats worth more to the Oilers than another scoring winger, who while a number 1 pick, might not even ever be anything more than a top line player.

I just can't see Yakupov being worth more than Weber at this point as an unproven prospect, especially with him having struggled post injuries.

Maybe its my bias as a dman, or the fact that I like proven over potential, but I just see Weber as the best dman in the game and one of a few players in this league that is a true franchise player. Yakupov isn't one of them.

I know if you look at it like this than it is more than fair (1st overall for Subban + 3rd overall) but Yakupov is expected to be so much more valuable than anyone else in this draft. (Kind of like how Crosby was in his draft just not as bad as that)

While many would take that deal, especially Habs fans, I think it would be a mistake for Edmonton to do it. It would be similar for Leafs fans to offer Schenn + 5th overall for Yakupov, I would do that in a heartbeat and it sounds like exactly what Edmonton would need but it isn't even close to enough IMO.

I definitely disagree that Weber is just as talented as Yakupov. Even if you can make that argument now, Yakupov will be better and definitely be worth more trade value-wise than Weber.

While Edmonton doesn't really need Yakupov in the top 6, he is arguably better than any one forward on the Oilers' roster. In fact they estimate that Yakupov will be a 40+ goal guy, while RNH and Hall will be 30ish goal guys. Which means even if you do not want to split up Hall - RNH - Eberle there is no reason why you cannot trade one of Gagner/Hemsky/MPS for a young 2/3/4 defenseman and fit Yakupov into that slot.

IMO, unless someone is willing to overpay (more than just Weber for example) Edmonton should not even consider trading Yakupov.

Hell imagine what D-man you can get for this:

Hemsky/Gagner/MPS

Remember that Omark wants out, there is another nice piece for negotiations.

Does he though? He might be the best player in the draft but does he has the sort of impact upside that Weber displays right now? Can Yakupov play an important enough role in the league, enough to be considered better than Weber?

And really, thats the price to get the leagues best defenseman. Yakupov is going on a team that quite frankly doesn't need him. His upside is actually going to be hurt playing for them. Weber gives them a franchise dman that helps them far more than yakupov ever would. Yakupov might be a franchise player, Weber already is.

It's merely a worst case scenario for Nashville, where they have to trade away Weber and Suter is leaving anyways.
