Toronto Maple Leaf News and Rumors
It kills me to see the leafs in such chaos right now. It kills me to even look at the boxscores when i see the leafs losing to a team like phoenix…. I’m very frustrated right now with the entire organization with their performances at every level: ownership, front office, coaching, players. The leafs entered the season with much optimism with expectations to make the playoffs, but all seems very dim now. I know that the leafs are out of 8th place by a few points and that it is only about 1/4 of the season, I can only hope that the leafs will change things around. Lets look at the levels of the leafs organization and how we can possibly fix it.
Maurice on His Way Out Of Toronto?
My typical Saturday night starts out with me taking the girlfriend out for supper then back home to watch the Leafs play.(lucky her eh?) And now most of the time ends with grief as the losses mount. But I noticed some tidbits that were aired that I wanted to pass on.
I have to admit, Raycroft USED to be a good goaltender (being a former calder trophy winner). But why trade Rask, he is pretty good for a young guy like him! I think that was the dumbest trade JFJ has ever made! Yes, Raycroft was a good goalie in Boston but now he is playing like he doesn’t care. Rask and Pogge were their future in goaltending.
With the Leaf’s season already off to a rocky start but not gone or out of reach by any means I believe now is the time to make a deal, or a shake up deal which will totally change how this team goes out an plays every night. I also believe the leaf’s have a possible trade partner in the SJ Sharks. Who have an already great team, thats way under cap, an would love to improve.
Possible ” Shake up ” deal.To SJ: -Sundin, McCabe, Tor’s 2rdp 2008
To Tor: -Marleau, McLaren.
The latest rumor out of Toronto has former Maple Leafs coach Pat Burns possibly taking over the head coaching duties from Paul Maurice.
According to Rich Chere of the New Jersey Star-Ledger, Burns could replace Maurice if the Leafs do not improve their performance over the next little while.
A similar report by Rosie Dimanno appeared this week in the Toronto Star.
I have always said that even if the leafs were losing or being their regular inconsisent selves, i always could look forward to watching some of their young players play and, over the past 2.25 seasons, i have:
Mats Sundin has been one of the best players in the NHL this season. He’s 5th in points, 12th in goals, and 18th in plus minus.
Its clear that this is a guy giving 110% every night…probably because he want to win the cup.
Problem is, he plays on a team satisfied with 50%
Most GMs not convinced Razor is a starter
With a quality goalie like Ilya Bryzgalov being waived by Anaheim, it makes you wonder about the trade value of Maple Leafs goaltender Andrew Raycroft on the open market.
Damien Cox and Spector are reporting that there is virtually no interest in Maple Leafs goaltender Andrew Raycroft from around the league.
For gods sake please take Andy wozniewski out of the line up , this guy has cost the leafs at least 8 points. every single shift that his been out there on the ice the leafs defense look shaky he looks totally lost and doesn’t know what his doing or who his covering , he gave the puck away 4 times last night in his own end which is absolutely ridiculous and the coaching staff is rewarding him with penalty kill???
Canada.com “offsides” has reported a rumor about the blackhawks asking about the availability of Bryan McCabe.
Once again, the Leafs let another slip through their butterfinger-like hands. But this time, there are no denying that someone screwed up royally. Now, do we blame Paul Maurice for putting Kronwall on the ice with little time left on the clock (and allowing the tying goal) and then decides to put Antropv and McCabe as two of the starting trio. Or do we blame McCabe, who we should now call Mr. Overtime. He seems not only to be the achilles heel for the Toronto Maple Leafs this year, but the worst part about it is that he doesn’t even care that he causes so much misery. The look on his face after giving up that pass was priceless… take a good look at it… it looks as though it was indifference.
Sportsnet and the FAN 590 are reporting the Leafs will be without the services of defenseman Pavel Kubina after an injury to his MCL in Saturday nights shootout loss to the Rangers
Strong support for another NHL team in Southern Ontario
According to Forbes, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the most valuable NHL team, valued at $332 million.
This value is rather remarkable, considering that the Maple Leafs have not won the Stanley Cup in 40 years. In addition, Toronto came out on top even though it has a smaller population size than New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, the largest Metropolitan cities in the United States.
This much can be said: The frustration level between Jason Blake and the Maple Leafs is at full peak. At this stage, no one is quite sure what to make of the other and neither side is happy….
I was just over at NHL.com reading the list of players on The All Star Ballot. After I wiped my eyes and reloaded the page to make sure my peepers were not playing tricks on me, I was understandably sick.
The Maple Leaf’s lost 5-1 to the Sens. The first half of the game saw an uninspired team go down 4-0 to the Sens and it took a time-out/goalie-switch/and major vending spree from Paul Maurice to get this team back to life although they still came up quite short losing 5-1.
I know what you’re thinking….ARGH….another Leaf article. Sorry but I have to get this out there.
This is a rant from a really angry die hard leaf fan .
I am sitting here in agony watching my leafs get man handled by a better and better Coached team in the Ottawa Senators score 4-0 and counting . It has come to me that it is not our defensemen that are the problem but our defensive play as a whole (team) giving up three short handed 2 on 1’s on the same power play and one resulting in a goal is just pathetic .
An optimist could argue the leafs are a top notch offensive team waiting for the defense to find its groove before the team takes off. A pesimist would argue their a bad team on a hot streak, waiting to collapse into the basement once the scoring slows down.
