Toronto Maple Leaf News and Rumors
So I have been reading all of these articles by people talking about what the leafs should do next summer and pretty much all of them list players that we should let go for next season. Every time it’s Peca, Perrault, O’Neill and….Antropov? I’m all for mixing up the team a little and seeing new faces but one of my personal favourite players this season (other than Kaberle, Sundin and Wellwood basically) was Nik Antropov. Let me tell you why….
Does JFJ have the guts to do what Nonis did? or will he just flab around and do some annoying pointless thing, we will have to see, I WILL actually check money and contracts so this is atleast kind of realistic but Im not sure if JFJ would have the guts to do something like this, well here are my ideas…
Well, obviously Sundin and Raycroft are not packing up and leaving any time soon, no matter how much some impatient people want them to but lets talk about a few more of their untouchable players..
It looks like the Leafs won’t get much help next season from the prospect Pool. Pogge and Earl need more time with the Marlies. Stralman is a few years away from playing in the NHL, Williams needs a good healthy year before being called up, Tlusty and Aubin will join the AHL ranks next season, and Kulemin has signed a 1 year deal in Russia for Next season.
Well.. I have heard a lot about trading Sundin and I have to disagree, look at Edmonton, they are a train wreck, Sundin is the center of the team and he can not be traded, i saw a topic earlier about him being the only guy to stand Torontos media and be able to lead the team and I totally agree…
Peter Forsberg is most easily described as a High Risk, High Reward player. For every team he has been with this has been the case. High Risk because of all his injuries and High Reward… well watch the man play in the playoffs. His Philidalphia time was completely injury plauged and only a matter of time should he stay in Nashville which as you will read in this article I dont think he will.

A lot, I repeat a lot of talk has circulated about, what the Leafs are going to do now. Well, the Leafs always talk the talk, but can they walk the walk too? In other years, the moves have not lived up to the hype, but maybe, just maybe the Leafs will this year.
With the leafs not making the playoffs their will be some retooling that will be needed but what will the leafs do ? They need to resign Boyd Devereaux, John Pohl, Nik Antropov, Bates Battaglia, Carlo Colaiacovo, Ian White. N

Well as I sit here, the Ilses have defeated the Devils in a shootout to claim 8th spot in the East. A shootout to decide the fate of both teams seasons is not a scenario that i looked forward to, but it happened, and thats how it goes in the “new NHL”.
It is very easy (and fun) for us Leaf fans to get caught up in the short term. Especially when that short term sees the Leafs and Habs battle it out in a showdown on Hockey Night in Canada. There is no other word to describe then ‘fun.’ and maybe – ‘intense.’ But with both Leaf and Hab fans must realize (and many do) is that all of this – the playoff race, the showdown, the melodrama in Montreal, the inconsistency/injuries in Toronto – are all very much meaningless. [Note: this article, written on Friday April 6th, might be posted AFTER the results from the Habs/Leaf game]
There is a lot of talk that the leafs should part ways with Sundin and focus on the future. I am here to write that parting with Sundin at this moment will not help us but hurt us more at the present time and in the near future. Reason being we do not have that next star to take over the Maple Leafs, There is no clear or forseable star waitin or up and coming. Everytime since the 90s the leafs have traded a star player another one was ready to take over. Lets take a look.
