Hockey Trade Rumors

The Toronto Star and TSN’s web site are reporting that there have been talks to bring Doug Gilmour to Toronto. Both are reporting that the deal could be done in the next two weeks. Gilmour said Thursday morning that the two sides have talked and that it would be a great fit for both the Leafs and him.

Teppo Numminen will be the new captain of the Phoenix Coyotes. The appointment will be announced September 11. when the training camp opens.

Mike Peca has reportedly accepted a five year deal with the Islanders for approx. 20 million dollars. Also the Lightning are working on a deal with Lecavalier. Lightning want a five year deal, while Lecavalier is looking for a three deal.

Another round of quick notes for everybody to chew on and digest. Some interesting stats I noticed when looking at last season, as well as a few contract battles going on.

I am very excited about the up and coming 2001-2002 season! There are still a few minor moves that need to be made but other than that the Panthers look competitive this year. I am going to look at all the spots on this rostor and share my line predictions and how I think the players will do.

Michael Peca has signed a contract with the New York Islanders worth 20 million over five years. The signing will be anounced in a afternoon news confrence in New York. The signing extends Peca two years past unrestricted free agency. Restricted free agent Alexi Yashin is the only player left the Islanders have to sign after aquiring both players in the offseason.

The deal has been approved by the NHL late Friday night. The Philadelphia Flyers send Eric Lindros to the New York Rangers for LW Jan Hlavac, D Kim Johnsson, proscpect Pavel Brendl, and a draft pick. Lindros signed a contract with the Rangers that is worth 37$ million dollars worth for over 4 years. The Rangers will hold a press conference on Monday.

The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers have finalized the Lindros deal. The Flyers will aquire Jan Hlavac, Kim Johnsson, Pavel Brendl and a mid-round draft pick, and the Rangers get Lindros and a conditional first-round draft pick if he doesn’t play enough games. The Rangers also reached a deal with Lindros reportedly worth $37 million over four years.

Sources say the final sticking point of the deal was insurance, was solved Friday. TSN reports that if Lindros suffers a concussion during the 2001-02 season, he will not be insured for the first year.

“I expect it to be resolved on Monday,” Clarke said.
