Panthers- took gamble…paying off?

Prior to the trade deadline, the Florida Panthers were 6-4. They decided not to trade defenceman Jay Bouwmeester, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and they are 2-5-3 since the deadline. Just before the trade deadline, Bouwmeester was playing very jittery and tentative and hadn’t played like that all year. The Panthers ventured the theory that he was nervous about his future, thinking he was going to be traded away. So they decided not to trade him when they didn’t get an offer that was worth it, thinking he would play better. But he’s played worse and there’s no sign of him coming out of this slump. The resume for Bouwmeester says that he’s not familiar with pressure hockey so how does anyone know if he will be good at it. His junior teams in Medicine Hat never made the playoffs and he’s never made the playoffs in the NHL.The only playoff experience he has came in the American Hockey League during the lock-out season. He started in San Antonio but was traded to Chicago, expressly to get that playoff experience. He played 18 games in the Wolves’ run to the Calder Cup and he had no points. He, as well as many of the young players on the Panthers, are struggling with the pressure of a stretch drive.

I would of dealt Boowmeester for the simple fact if he hadn’t resigned before the deadline he is to vital to just loose. I reasoning figure a team would paid 2 first rounders for him and or a roster player and a high end draft.

It was a bad market this year at the dead line, so unless Jaybo signed an extension with the team he was getting traded to. There was no way a team was paying 2 first rounders for him.  Nor what Martin wanted with I think it was 3 roster players that could help now.  Florida needs to make playoffs in the next few years and they took a stab at it. They will probably lose him now, but really it was the only option as the market was not there.  Jaybo not having alot of playoff experience also hurt his value at the deadline.

um you could at least mention Bob McKenzie if you're going to copy his entire article lol

Alright, well now lets say that jaybo was traded, for 2 1st rounds, how do you think the panthers would be doing now? Most likely a lot worse, at least with JayBo around they still have a solid defense, if he was traded no one would take his place, so really 2-5-3 could easily be 0-6-5 or something without out him. However, looking into the future, they really should have traded him, teams may not have been offering 2 1st rounds, but i'm sure they recieved some offers on JayBo, offers that could easily have helped them now.

    What do you guys think?

    come on dude
posting two extra lines at the end of an article doesnt make it yours
not only are you making yourself look dumb, your stealing someone elses work
next time think up some of your own thoughts before posting on the site

Many will point to J-Bo or others like Weiss, Booth, Stillman, Ballard, or McCabe.

But make no mistake, this team is all about Tomas Vokoun (and Craig Anderson).  Florida's goaltending has been unbelievable.  They have absolutely no business being even close to a playoff spot.  The goaltending has carried this team.  But how long can this last?

  6. reinjosh says:

    completely agreed on the goaltending
though i disagree with your questioning for how long
vokoun has proven this year and in many past that he can shoulder the load as a starter and in a top 15 goalie in the league
with him starting the panthers have goaltending down
anderson has clearly shown that he can play in the nhl and can take on responsibility of a starter should it befall him. now with two very good goalies, should they make the playoff, they will not be an easy team to beat and as long as the rest of the team is firing on all cylinders, the panthers should be able to make a good run for the playoffs

it's been two times now you stolen someone else's work. First time, Scott Cullen, and now Bob mcKenzie. Watch out, or you'll be banned.

I wanna see a new logo on Florida's jersey. I suggested an orange. Something that better captures the essence of the sunshine state.  It would make me happy to wake up one day and see the team is called the Florida Oranges.

  9. Rico420 says:

What about the Florida Critically Endangered Species?

  10. Kramer says:

This is what I think too.  The panther is almost extinct in Florida. They gotta rename the team urgently.  Oranges is a perfect name.  Its refreshing and rich in vitamin C.

  11. Rico420 says:

I agree 100% with you Kramer it's almost as silly as naming a team in Toronto after a dinosaur.

  12. avsjoendryan says:

NO DOUBT! Jaybo is the real deal and has made this team a team.

    Serious leader of the panthers.

Most of you kids cant name 10 or more players off this roster off the top of your head.
