Rangers trying to trade Malik

The New York Post is reporting that defenseman Marek Malik is still a Ranger and may remain a Ranger is the asking price is not lowered.

It is reported that Sather is presently asking for a top four defenseman in return for Malik who still comes with about a million dollar salary cap hit, which is quite high. Larry Brooks indicated that there is widespread interest around the league for his services however there are zero teams that are interested in paying top dollar for a player who has been the Rangers 6 or 7 d man this season.

I'd trade Brooks Orpik for Marek Malik straight up.

What happened to Kaspairitus? Is he still in the AHL? I'd take him for a 6th rounder off of the Rangers to reunite him with the Penguins.

  2. ranger_fan says:

    SOLD!

Darius is in Russia and if he can be brought back I am sure he'd have to clear re-entry

In my article I suggested moving Malik for a backup like Patrick Lalime

  3. nyr30 says:

have to say that in my opinion the quicker he is gone the better. it doesnt have anything to do with how he has been playing or the fact that he is pretty much hated by most new york fans.

it is to do with the dis-respect he showed to his coach and his team mates when he refused to shake tom renney's hand after the win against atlanta.

i would glady accept orpik for malik

orpik couldy be the physical d-man the rangers need. they are to soft. no one sticks up for lundqvist when the opposing team are banging away at him in the crease. ala the goal scored on him in the 1st boston game.

not just in that game it has happened on numerous occasions in previous games i have seen. they may be able to package him with montoya for someone better but until montoya see's nhl ice time i dont think we could get the value for him we could.

  4. Kramer says:

Malik is not one of the players who knows about the conspiracy so I doubt NY would move him.  I heard Gomez and Jagr know about the bookies plot so they might be moved.

  5. NYI365-318J1 says:

malik fits in well with the rangers. he is overpaid, past his prime, disrespectful, lazy, he sucks!!! and all the ranger fans hate him… …sounds like a keeper for you guys :-)

    LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!

  6. CanadaIsGold says:

What the hell are you talking about? You make the character Cosmo Kramer look like a genius you tithead.

  7. CanadaIsGold says:

Does anyone agree Kramer is a joke? But anyways, Malik's name has been their I think since last year, I personally haven't seen him play much, is he that bad?

  8. marcstaalscrazy says:

you islander fan whoever ur name is that just commented before…you're a disgrace to hockey fans in general. the islanders are absolute garbage..there best players right now are straight up bought by garth snow the big dumb idiot who shouldnt even be allowed to be a gm in this league he's so dumb. yea i like comrie and i think bill guerins a respectable nhl player, but i mean your team is just full white trash. plus , you have literally 10 fans a game go to your games and the only time your sold out is when the rangers are playing.. have fun being a fan for a team who hasnt sold out a game that hasnt been played against the rangers in years…

  9. kamullia says:

10 minutes after the trade your phone would ring: “Mr. Magnus, you have 10 minutes to clear your desk and leave the premises.”

Orpik is one of the few dangling carrots that the Penguins have as trade bait/enticement, and I doubt a straight swap for Malik is what they have in mind for him if he is to be traded.

  10. BruMagnus says:

Before those 10 minutes are up I'd trade kamullia for Eklund!

  11. BruMagnus says:

I love Kramer! He's hilarious (both on here and Seinfeld).

  12. kamullia says:

So you’d give me away, a person who actually knows something about hockey, and pick up Klessel, a musician with an avid fantasy for hockey sense, for your hockey operations?

Not only you’re getting fired, but they are going to sue you for that one! Better hold on your shirt, buddy!

  13. wheresthesoda says:

no he's not, he's actually a solid d-man, it's just that he is so big, and doesn't hit, and doesn't really have the offensive skill of a scoring d-man, but everyone once in awhile you'll see Malik take the puck into the offensive zone and he has a few moves, but you'll see it twice a season if you watch him all year.

he's a solid, good first pass kinda guy, but NY sees every mistake he makes and gets on him for it.

  14. BruMagnus says:

I'd then trade the government for Kim Jong Il's', assassinate him, and declare myself Emperor.

  15. BruMagnus says:

as much as I hate the Islanders and Snow, I've gotta give huge comps to them for "buying" their team. They took a bunch of washed up throw aways (Guerin and Comrie) after having lost 5 of their top 6 players, and somehow turned that into yet again a playoff team.

  16. kamullia says:

At which point your military and security force would assassinate you in turn and restore democracy (while ignoring the requests of the politicians to be returned to office, thank God!).

I guess it would all turn back to normal in it’s own course, with the benefit of getting rid of all those politicians…and YOU!

Hmmm, this proposal merits further pondering…

    ;o) j/k

you obviously dont know SHIT!!! …the Islanders avrage over 13,000 fan per game and most of them are not just some business men having meatings and taking clients out to the game like your rangers, Garth Snow has done an excellent job cleaning up mad mike’s mess by putting together a team full of Ted Nolan type players. Garth Snow also made history when he gave Rick DiPietro a 15 year contract, and he was able to pull of the biggest trade at the deadline last year… …white trash? are you kidding me? YOUR THE IDIOT!!! did you even think what the hell you were writing there? all the Islanders are classy guys that constantly give back to the community, the rangers on the other hand have the biggest white trash in the NHL with avrey and hollweg… …and my screen name here is my season ticket location in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Colusium. section 318 row J seat 1… …why dont you try and tell me that i am a disgrace to hockey fans in general to my face!!! LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!!!… …rangers SUCK!!!… …and marc staal SUCKS!!! …messier is a MESS!!! anybody named leach is a true SUCKER!!! and anyone who calls the garden there home is a PANSY!!!

  19. wheresthesoda says:

so your comment about the 13,000 a game says a lot, as for "taking clients out to a game", first of all any businesses that have tickets have always had them, therefor the season being sold out in 30 minutes has to say something, and I'm sure Chris Simon is a "classy guy", it just seems like your a typical Islander fan thats got a lot of shit to say.

And can you show some respect to Colton Orr, if your gonna say shit about Avery and Hollweg, you gotta add there buddy.

  20. deadbeatdrunkfather says:

malik is a bum and needs to get the heck outta here….
rangers need to make some moves to wake up the club..
they need to get a solid d-man or 2 and a scoring forward…
i think they should try and get brooks orpik from pitts he would be the perfect fit strong and nasty and would be great along stall in my opinion or could try and get foote or blake both old and overpaid….
as for a forward i owuld like to c them try and get sundin i think this would rejuvenate jagr and make the rangers a cup contender again…. then u could shift drury to the wing and create a deadly second line as well….. the defense is needed most and then the forward but i think the key is to get someone to compliment jagr since he will not be traded but if jagr is goin then the rangers are……

  21. deadbeatdrunkfather says:

oh man i never heard so much whining… the islanders will always be known as the trash of the nhl…. the stadium itself is a dump…. thanks now i know where the bathroom is to take a s**t (section 318 row J seat 1)when i go to an islanders game…. islanders are horrible!! have the worst GM in hockey… i hope he stays there for 30 more years…

  22. NYI365-318J1 says:

its funny that you mentioned orr had his name in there too but decided to cut him out becuse he hasnt made an impact in the rivalry. as far as Cris Simon go’s i love that he hit hollweg in the face with his stick in retaliation to a cheap shot (i watch the replay all the time on youtube) but i cant say the same about what he did to ruttu. and i am not a typical Islanders fan i am a fanatic season ticket holder and the rare bread of a pure Islanders fan. and i absolutely HATE the rangers, i wouldn’t rout for even them if it was for the Islanders to make the playoffs! …rangers SUCK!!! …LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!

  23. deadbeatdrunkfather says:

there isnt much to talk about when it comes to the islanders… i could care less what they do for the community… zzzzzzzzz u islander fans have always been a bunch of little girls… ur time was in the 80's and never again will that happen…. the rangers are the next dynasty give or take in a year or so….. so get prepared and get ur jammies on so u can watch my rangers win the cup……

  24. deadbeatdrunkfather says:

so this is what the GM meetings are like

  25. rangersfan30 says:

Someone who's team has a first line center of Mike Comrie, should be silent.

  26. rangersfan30 says:

Attacking hall of fame, retired stars…a brilliant discourse.

Look, sure they avg 13,000 fans per game and generally about 2,000 – 8,000 of them are rooting for the other team.

Ah yes, you mention Ryan Smyth, the biggest trade at the deadline who ran screaming out of The Mausoleum as soon as he could.

What are "Ted Nolan" type players? Players who choke in the cup finals? Third-liners playing on the first lines of a team that will fade in the stretch because they had to work harder than any other team just to barely stay above .500?

And guess what genius, the Rangers do just as much for their community as any other club. Check out the Garden of Dreams foundation one of these days. Read up about Graves and Messier and how they have built wings in children's hospitals. The NHL as a whole dedicates their time to the community.

I will admit that DiPietro is a good goalie, but sure nothing could happen to him in 15 years! Nah…oh wait… wasn't that him complaining of a hip injury during the skills competition? Right, yep….
