Boy I hope it isn't Tortorella, I will miss him on TSN too much….lol. But he is the right type of coach for this team.

  2. muckies says:

I betcha Renney can skate faster then Redden can, maybe they should keep him in the loop and try him on D – couldn't be worse then the guys they have now.

  3. justafan says:

I know Tortorella is the best thing on TSN, funny as sh*t, waiting for him to punch out Big Head McKenzie though…lol

  4. ranger_fan says:

This was not Renneys fault unless he came up with this offseason game plan. The Rangers are in a world of hurt in terms of the cap. I think either Jim or John would be a fine choice. It amazing the Rangers goal production is comparable to that of the Isles. Short term I think Tortorella is the better choice. I think long term Schoenfeld is because his knowledge of the system and players the Rangers will have to rely on when they are forced to buy out Redden, Rozsival, Gomez, etc.

  5. K-Mill says:

They said about a month ago that Mark Messier wanted to coach. Maybe the captain will get a shot as the head coach of the New York Rangers.

  6. leafy says:

The Leafs have caused 2 coaches to be fired in the past 7 days!!! First Therion and now Renney.

At least we have something to brag about, in what has been an otherwise miserable season.

  7. GoLeafs13 says:

If Messier coaches I bet he will have the same impact Gretzky has had on the Coyotes. It would be a disaster.

  8. leafy says:

And this is the guy Ottawa re-signed while allowing Chara to walk.

2 years ago, I was going crazy trying to tell people that Redden is far worse than Bryan McCabe despite his higher salary, but for some reason, Redden was escaping criticism (because of his reputation?), while McCabe was a popular whipping boy.

Whenever I brought up the debate, it was like I was blaspheming, judging by people's responses, ie, "How dare you criticize Redden?"  Incredible how time changes people's perception.

  9. RossCreek says:

To NYR: Craig MacTavish, Billy Moores & Kelly Buchberger

To Edmonton: Tom Renney & Perry Pearn

    ???

    lol

  10. pezzz123 says:

Add Sather and Lowe/Tambellini to the mix lol….it would be awesome to see Lowe in the same conference as Burke again 🙂

  11. muckies says:

Don't forget that a couple of years ago Redden was wearing a Team Canada jersey at the Olypics. he's really slowed down the last couple of years, especially his last seasonw ith Ottawa.  He had leg problems thta he never seemed to work on to make himself better, word in Ottawa is he has lost his off-season drive to be one the best, and he has let his coniditoning slip.

Judging from what new coach Clouston has said, the entire Ottawa team has let it's coniditoning slide besides the obviuos Alfie, Vermette and Fisher.  Redden was just the worst off that team, and it is really showing now

Gretzky wasn't a good coach right off the bat, but he has turned into a really good coach, most experts would agree.

  13. mojo19 says:

lol, its true but think of it this way: We get to brag that the Leafs are so bad that losing to them is such a disgrace that it pushes a coach on the bubble over the edge….. Maybe we shouldn't brag Leafy. haha.

  14. mojo19 says:

John Tortorella is the type of intense, hard-ass coach who would be perfect to come in to an underacheiving team mid season. I think he could really make an immediate impact on the Rangers. For their sake I hope it happens, although I'm not a Rangers fan.

  15. LeafsNation91 says:

Wow, the Leafs have got rid of another coach in this league. So, coaches beware, lose to the Leafs, and you will be fired.

    Next Leaf target. Guy Carbonneau
  16. greatlife15 says:

But we need Torts to participate in the best game show in Canada.. THE QUIZ!

  17. mojo19 says:

Haha, I like how he won't answer a lot of the questions and he gets in feuds with the host. But the fact that he won't shows that he still wants to coach in the NHL, so he's not going to give opinions on certain topics that could make him look bad towards particular organizations.

  18. leafy says:

That's true, I never thought of it that way.  It's such a humiliation to lose to the Leafs that they're fired immediately. Hahaha!!!

"Sources say the New York Rangers and John Tortorella have an agreement in place that would make him the next head coach of the NHL team, but that the Tampa Bay Lightning have not yet granted him permission to do so… A current NHL on TSN analyst, Tortorella remains under contract to the Lightning for the balance of this season. In order for him to become head coach of the Rangers, he requires the blessing of the Lightning.  Sources also tell TSN that the blessing has yet to be granted, however the NHL's head office is now involved in an attempt to resolve the situation."

That's bush if Tampa stands in his way. This better be a formaility or Koules & Barrie will get ripped!

  20. popkumdan says:

Tambellini can stay for now… but if he pulls off any more of those Garon trades… then we can trade him..

the idea of sending MacT anywhere is a good one tho…

  21. Shinoda27 says:

If Bylsma doesn't get the Penguins into the playoffs, I would say Renney ends up in Pittsburgh. I think he would be a perfect fit for this team because he has shown he can get the most out of his star players by the way he handled Jagr and Shanny. He seems like a "Ray Shero" type of guy too. Could bring Pearn with him and maybe Bylsma could be an assistant.
    Thoughts?

Just heard on the FAN that the Rangers have a contract on the table for Tortarella but T.B. wants compensation if he signs.

  25. greatlife15 says:

I don’t understand. Why would TB get anything?

  26. beckfan05 says:

Because they still have him under contract since they fired him and are still paying him.

  27. LeafsNation91 says:

lol. I really do not know, its not MSN. Who do you want to axe?

And like normal, I'm not afraid to msg him back…
  32. RossCreek says:

The Team 1260 in Edmonton and TSN's Ryan Rishaugh just reported that Bob McKenzie texted him – John Tortarella is a done deal.

there's going to be so many guys like that in the coming years with the way the nhl is being run.  so many guys are being overpaid every off season.  Is Brian Campbell really worth the same as Zdeno Chara and Niklas Lidstrom.  Well no one cares right now, but when the team starts to turn the corner (like the Pittsburgh Penguins) after a successful year or two, people will be calling for his head in the windy city.  Bouwmeester is unlikely to live up to a 7-8 million dollar contract if you ask me, and so on and so forth.

It is crazy though how wrong Ottawa's management went in their decision making.  I couldn't believe they let Comrie walk and resigned Fisher, but that would have been blasphemous to point out after their run to the Cup a couple seasons ago.  They've almost righted that wrong, now all they need to do is boot Fisher out of town and lay out a new affordable contract for Comrie.  Sadly, that was the smallest of their errors…

  36. trueblue says:

Maybe but thats their problem….sounds odd that their is no clause in the contract that states that if they fire him he has the right to work elsewhere as a head coach…..

    hey i got a solution….

    give them Voros as compensation!!!

  37. trueblue says:

yeah that guy is a little deranged….BTW what kind of name is Barahir?

Sounds like something Scooby Doo is trying to say!

  38. trueblue says:

I hear you… i really liked Renney…. it would be something if he took Schoenfeld's job…they did offer him to stay in the organization.

Anyway, there isnt a better time than now to try and fix some of the cap issues than now with the deadline aproaching…. they should unload redden and naslund at least….and if they could drury too….

I bet you if they said were gonna scrap the season and unload those guys and brought in Avery….Anisimov….and whatever they get for that trio…they just might still get in the playoffs and do pretty well!

  39. HabsMakeYouWhine says:

mmm i would go with the alladin thing
