They tried to build their team for the playoffs, adding in grit like Brouwer and Ward, but now they aren’t as lethal in the regular season. Ribeiro has been a nice replacement for Semin, he’s playing great, but the rest of the team misses Fleischmann and some of the skill they’ve lacked.

Green and Ovie taking a step back in terms of consistency has really hurt the most though. Those two guys need to get going.

Also, this is a team that has traded away Varlamov, and let Vokoun walk in the last couple of years. Good goaltending is hard to come by, I think McPhee has been spoiled.

I think a big shake-up may be needed in Washington. They have tried numerous coaches, made some “tweek” deals and they get worse. I would not be surprised if they keep going in a downward direction…a big name is moved before the deadline.

I think Washington needs a gritty vetern who can come in and supply leadership. They have a ton of good pieces, i think mcPhee should tweek first before a larger change is considered. But he has gone through a few coach’s so he has to be on the Hot seat one would think?
