Rumor Updates from the past week or so — Jagr, Nagy, Hossa and more

A collection of rumors and tidbits from the past week or so from a wide variety of different sources.

The Toronto Sun is reporting that the Penguins are shopping quite hard for a winger to play with Sidney Crosby. One of the names mentioned in the article is the Thrashers Marian Hossa who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the closure of this season. Another interesting tid-bit from this article is that it is mentioned that the Nashville Predators may send JP Dumont to the Penguins. One thing is for sure … if the Penguins are able to land a player who will be able to click with Crosby

the Penguins will be a real force to recon with.

The News and Observer is reporting that the Hurricanes are shopping for an enforcer. It is reported that teams are taking shots at the Hurricanes because they do not have a legitimate touch guy in their lineup who can step it up when games are dirty and gritty.

No direct names are mentioned.

A rumor that has surfaced during the past week or so I that there is a possibility that the Rangers and Coyotes could swing a blockbuster deal. The Bleacher Report speculates that the mega trade rumor involves a deal that would see Jagr, Prucha, Roszival to the Desert in exchange for Shane Doan and Ed Jovanovski. HTR believes that there is a very little to this rumor as Jovo has a no trade clause however it has been well speculated that the Rangers would love to see Jovo in their lineup.

TPF reports that the Kings have no interest in dealing their young and upcoming players however it is noted that they could be willing to deal some of their veteran players who do not have non-movement clauses such as Nagy and Brad Stuart. HTR believes that these two players would only be able to fetch draft picks as they appear to be good deadline pickups.

  1. habsrock99 says:

Jovo nixed a trade to the Isles during the summer and sources like Spector and The Fourth Period continually report that Jovo could be going to the Rangers. Now no offence to Ranger fans but if Jovo rejected a trade to the Isles I highly doubt he'd accept a trade to the Rangers seeing as both teams are located in New York.

A more likely candidate would be Derek Morris, who's pretty damn good in his own right.

  2. wheresthesoda says:

That trade would never happen between the Rangers and Coyotes, first of all that would just damage the Rangers cap situation even further. And second of all Roszival is one of the most underrated defensman in the NHL.

Rangers and Jackets will most likely end up trading

  3. MR40 says:

Islanders aren't located in New York. They are the New York Islanders, but they don't play in New York. I might be wrong though.

The Rangers have fans, the Islanders don't. Anyone would want to play for the Rangers, just not the Islanders. Anyone would want to be playing in New York, but the Islanders aren't just somewhere else in New York the state, not New York city.

I can seeing Jovo wanting to play for the Rangers.

  4. habsrock99 says:

The Isles are located in Manhatten(I could also be wrong)

But Jovo has been reported saying that he doesn't want to play in a big market again, which is why he either wants to stay in Phoenix or go back to Florida, which is the only place he's said he wants to be traded to.

  5. the_next_agent says:

im hearing that the rangers and jackets could get a deal going that would send adam foote to the rangers and petr prucha to Columbus.  the deal would consist of minor players but they are the main players

  6. wheresthesoda says:

they do not play in manhatten, don't ever make that mistake again. they play in Uniondale, want to know what happens there?..two weeks ago someone was murdered two blocks away from the Coliseum, that and its the crappiest place to play.

Uniondale is on long island if you don't know, it's in Nassau County

  7. NHLman says:

You obviously have no knowledge on the subject.

Islander- play on Long Island in an empty decrepit arena, lackluster franchise, nothing expected of them
Rangers- play in the middle of Manhattan in the World's Most Famous Arena, original six team, a lot expected from them this season.

  8. NHLman says:

Can we please spell Manhattan right? The Indians didn't sell it to us for a bunch of pebbles to have it spelled incorrectly.

  9. NHLSlayer says:

WOW, compared to the last decade, when the Rangers couldn't beat a College second string team.

The Islanders and Rangers BOTH play in New York, hence the f***ing name.

NOBODY SAID IT WAS NEW YORK CITY…

New York State still qualifies as New York.

  10. NHLSlayer says:

Not trying to knock this rumour down, but there would have to be much more involved in this deal.  Just cap room alone dictates that there would have to be more coming the Rangers way, as, even with the little bit of wiggle room they have, there is no way they could afford Foote's 4.5 million dollar salary.  Jason Chimera might be involved in the deal as well, and this would make more sense, from a strictly financial standpoint.

  11. chanman says:

    Wow…no bias here…

  12. beckfan05 says:

But when people comment on "playing in New York", no one refers to the Sabres even though they play in New York.

  13. beckfan05 says:

If everyone reads into that article a little more you can clearly see that this writers "trade rumor buzz" is his own speculation.

When did Doan play under Renny and since when is Jagr NOT the #1 guy on the Rangers?

  14. Pronger44 says:

What a joke. Whoever posted this article knows nothing and is speculating their own stupid thoughts. Waste of a page on this site.

  15. MikeGartner says:

Ok, since I live on Long Island, The Isles play in an ARENA thats decrepit, but don't get it mixed with the area.  It is surrounded by some of the richest population in the states; which is what makes the arena so ironic.  The upper middle class and the rich that surround the area boggles my mind as to how that nausaleum sucks so much ass.  Granted, Uniondale isn't the best of places, but I can think of worse, for sure.   Of course, there is no comparison to Manhattan, but please, I'd rather play on the island then Carolina, Columbus, Phoenix, etc.

  16. patthekat78 says:

Long Island and New York City are liking being on different ends of the earth, plus the Rangers spend to win sell out every night and its a great place to play. Playing on the Island in front of half empty building an ownership that will not spend money, and a fan base that only show up when the Rangers are playing. Are HUGELY different situations.

  17. rojoke says:

Isn't Long Island a burrough of New York City?

  18. Pronger44 says:

god just shaddup, who cares exactly the difference between NYI and NYR, stupid geeks.

  19. devilsfan13 says:

i could see that but they are both UFA at years end and there salary total would be CLB-5.375(CHimera and Foote) and the rangers have PRucha at 1.6 they need to add somthign else and that would be Mara and/or Malik both UFA at seasons end and with those 3 it would be 7.1from for 5.375 for CLB i could see a deal like this happening, including prospects and/or draft picks.

if Foote's going to N.Y Mara and/or Malik would be leaving

  20. BruMagnus says:

Can we please be politically correct? Try saying First Nations people or at the very worst Native Americans. Don't say Indians ever again.

  21. BruMagnus says:

The Pens have plenty of Cap space, but their self-imposed limit hampers their chances of going after Hossa…. However…. with Jordan Staal sucking balls this year, and MAF not playing spectacular (and injured), it's not looking like the Pens will have to spend that much to re-sign those guys.
MAF may get $1.5-2 million and hopefully over a 3-5 year contract. Jordan Staal isn't an RFA for another 2 years, but they may pull a Crosby on him.
Malkin also is an RFA in 2 years, but he will certainly command a lot of money.

One thing however that people need to know is that Malkin and Crosby are currently a Cap Hit of nearly $4 million (same with Ovechkin) and Staal over $2 million, so there won't be too much more spend over that for Staal and Malkin.

Also, Recchi and Roberts' $4.5 million will be GONE next year. GONE! Thank God! And this money alone will free up space for someone like Hossa I think.

Either way, look for the Pens to make a move for a top 6 winger. Even if it's Dumont (or somehow Erat) that would be welcomed by the Pens, but getting a true gamebreaker like Hossa would be wonderful.

    I'd suggest for Hossa:
    Malone, a 1st rounder in 2008, a 1st rounder in 2009 and a prospect.
