Umm, dude, I wasn't exactly serious...but NO team (Canadian or American) is going to give away their core as you are asking to rent a player for 2 - 3 months!

Guerin has been traded for ONE player and a first round pick according to TSN. See, he's a rental player. Now Smyth >> Guerin of course, so maybe he'd be worth 2 picks and a player or 2 players and a pick....

It's all for not anyway, sounds like Smyth signed 5 yrs 22 million according to Sportsnet. Great deal for the Oil if that's true...

Listen, as a non Hab fan how do you explain trading Aby and Perez for Smyth??? I mean Look at what Atlanta gave to get Tkatchuk ...come on man.. be serious.

For Smyth if im Edmonton :

1- I try to keep him at all costs, if not,

2 - I dont deal with a fellow canadian team as they will not be willing to give me what I want.

2- If for some odd reason I am forced to deal with Mtl, I would get : Higgins, Komisarek, Plekanec, Huet and 1round pick and conditional 1rst round pick for Smyth and Markkanen and Of course from the Habs point of vue that is not possible.

After watching that goaltending debacle last night, I was thinking how Bob could unload Abby. Since I didn't realize Minny was shopping Fernandez, I got to thinking how nice it would be if the Habs could get Ryan Smyth as a rental. Normally, I wouldn't agree to a rental player, but Smyth is one of my favourite (non-Hab) players in the league. And Perezhogin was part of the deal I was thinking about:

To Edmonton:
Aebischer
Perezhogin
1st Rounder (and maybe a 3rd)

To Montreal:
Ryan Smyth
Jussi Markkanen

Regardless whether Smyth gets traded, he is likely to re-sign with the Oil in the off season anyway. Roloson is the clear #1, and I think they have depth in the minors at that position. Abby is a UFA, so they just let him go.

The Habs still don't have an ideal goalie situation leading up to the playoffs, but I think it's an improvement as Abby scares me because you don't know if the good Abby or horrendous Abby will show up.

So in the end, if the Oilers re-sign Smyth, the deal is basically Markkanen for Perezhogin and a 1st. Perezhogin has tremendous offensive upside, just lacks a bit of grit and confidence. I think MacT could bring that out in him. A steal any way you slice it. And if Smyth helps the Habs get to (and deep into) the playoffs, allowing Huet to come back, who knows what could happen... and that's my 2 cents.

I have to say first 2 periods lat night were the best of the year, Koivu was playing like he used to. Goaltending made it closer then it should have been. We still need a big forward. Aslo if Kovalev would play like that all time, he would be such an asset instead of an ass.
