Because I am a fan. I don't have to follow blindly and cheer when they do stupid things. But, I'm not going to root for a different team just because the Habs are mired in a multiyear funk.

The team is fixable with good management and disciplined coaching.

we won 2 cups with roy cause the western conference had 2 teams with stacked lineups. dallas and detroit. the fact that it ended on a controversial goal makes it more pathetic that his only cup was controversial. how come he hasnt won it else where with decent teams?

Pathetic you could only win two Cups with Roy. When you consider that Roy won two with lousy Habs teams, you with think that a lineup of Avs Hall of Fame players could have done more.

Belfour won four games and Hasek won two. Belfour was the dominant goalie in games five and six, the ones that mattered most. The fact that the game ended on a controversial goal is not Eddie's fault.

awwww thats cute funny thing is last time you won a stanley cup was in 93 with a goalie you gave to us for next to nothing. led us to 9 straight division titles 2 cups and a few conference finals. alot more then montreal has done since 96. dont use the excuse we havent won a cup since roy left us we only have had 1 year without him.

Out played hasek for 2 games now can you tell me the other ones?

Lol. Koivu’s not worth half that much money. The only players worth 4.whatever million a year just for wearing a “C” is Yzerman and Messier. He for sure isn’t getting paid that much for his “talent.” Terrible signing.

Belfour shut out the Sabres in game five of the finals and stopped 53 of 54 shots in game six. He outplayed Hasek, the best goalie of his era.

I guess Avs fans had no reason to watch the Cup that year.

Who was the bigger idiot? Gainey for overpaying or Koivu for staying with a loser when he could have jumped to a winner?

For Gainey, it was safe thing to do. He would have lost Koivu for nothing in the off season, as, almost no one wants to come to Montreal to be under media scrunity, pay steep taxes and barely make the playoffs. Gainey had to overpay Koivu to stay with this team of underachieving losers.

Dumb move by Koivu who could have gone somewhere better for a little less money and perhaps been surrounded by teammates who are committed to winning. Yes, it shows great loyalty but, this loyalty was bought with an above market contract that will hamper this team.

I can't think of a single player who signed an above market contract to join or reamain with a loser who didn't regret it a year later.
