It looks like sens brass lost patience in Eaves. He is definitely a hit or miss player. Ottawa's biggest problem during their slide, especially prevalent in their latest loss to Toronto, was that they could not clear in front of the net. Commodore really does remedy that issue. At the same time, there are only 2 puck moving d-men. Volchenkov has underrated passing skills IMO, and Phillips was originally supposed to have more offensive talent, but still, they have become a lot less mobile.

I honestly don't know how Stillman would fit in with Fisher. Ottawa's biggest problem was that Fisher is the best 3rd line center in the league, but he's playing on the second line. I still think Ottawa needs a playmaking center, put him between Alfredsson and Stillman. After the stillman trade, I am honestly thinking it might be a good idea to go for Comrie or Federov. Comrie didn't do that well in the playoffs last year, but he was playing through an injury. Federov would also be a wild card.

Corvo is actually a tougher loss than most people may think. He was pretty good in the playoffs. I still remember that goal he scored game 2 against buffalo. Classic.
I'm not quite understanding this deal from Carolina's perspective.

Sure, they add a pretty good power-play defenseman, but they loose one of their toughest net-clearing defenseman. They also loose ton's of experience in return for a borderline prospect who hasn't proved much, even given an opportunity to play with two of the best at their positions (Heatley and Spezza), and a player who is about one trade away from officially being a journeyman.

Seems like they traded to fill one hole, only to create another. I don't get it.

Ottawa gets pretty much exactly what they need, cup winning veterans, a huge tough defenseman and secondary scoring. That frees up players like Redden to be more offensive-minded on defense, and alleviates pressure from the Spezza line, and gives players like Vermette and Fisher someone who can actually put the puck in the net. It also gives them the option of separating Heatley and Alfredson to create two solid scoring lines, AND allows Fisher to concentrate more on the defensive aspect of his game.

I just don't see how this makes sense for Carolina. While it is arguable that they have gotten worse, they certainly didn't get better.

A few reasons why both teams won the deal 1st ottawa at first looks like they won the deal by a mile well they might of well just did do that because the 2 guys their bringing in could make them win the cup this year and they got rid of a mistake in corvo signing him to a huge contract but isnt it whats it all about to win a cup well they just might of done that

Carolina could win the deal in the long run if eaves turns out to be what he's suppose to but why carolina could win this deal is because they could resign stillman and commodore after this season and that would give them stillman, commodore, corvo, eaves and for ottawa nobody wich would mean carolina wins the deal in a land slide

if that true then ottawa could still win because they needed money to resign redden wich now they could keep so either way ottawa could win and carolina could win great deal for both sides

Well im not a fan of ottawa i actually am one of the few that think they were going to get eliminated in the 1st round because of they had 4 problems and this trade fixed all of them except one the problems were not enough winners as stanly cup winners they got 2 now with experience 2 defense wich now is solid with 6'5 commodore, 3 was a one line team now their a 2 line tema that could win them a stanly cup but the one thing im still not so sure about is their goaltending im seriouse i dont see emery or gerber winning a stanly cup little babies and fragile goalies dont win cups i like to call it karma for emery and gerber i feel bad for how weak his mind is ... well if ottawa trades for a goalie then for sure im going with ottawa to win the cup at least its a canadian team ... Maybe one day my habs will win the cup maybe this year if ottawa doesnt trade for a goalie heres hoping
