It is less likely SJ asked Marleau to waive NTC and more likely that Marleau asked SJ to explore trade possibilities to select teams.

If they get the right return they definitely should. A top-9 forward, small cap dump and a 1st should be what they aim for.
Only issue is the best team for SJ to trade to from his 3-team list is the Rangers. Good luck with that, they do not have the cap space and need to resign younger players in later years. Unless SJ is willing to eat 50% then it won’t happen.
We will have to wait for an offer from another team and have them convince Marleau to waive.
