Speculation from the Toronto Sun

The Toronto Sun is providing a ton of speculation regarding trade rumors and players who may be on the move.

It is reported that San Jose has been talking to the Thrashers of late in order to try to acquire Marian Hossa. Part of the package that the Sharks would send to Atlanta would include Patrick Marleau who has also been part of many trade rumor this season. HTR believes that this would be a great return for Atlanta who risk loosing Hossa for no return this off season.

It is also reported that Thomas Kaberle refused to waive his no trade clause which may have been in part the reasoning why the Flyers made the move to pick up Modry yesterday from the Kings.

The Oilers are apparently trying to shop Jared Stoll to any team that would be looking to give the Oilers a fair and reasonable package.

Winning faceoffs has been quite an issue in Montreal and a guy like Stoll could be fairly useful to replace Smolinski who has been having a less than stellar year.

I dont know how Stoll has been playing since last years concussion but from what I hear he would be a great addition to the teams lineup. Just a question of whats on the table.

Chipchura would be a similar player and both are RFAs, at seasons end for Stoll and 08/09 for Chip. The difference being that Chippy is making less than half the salary and being 4 years younger.

It kind of seems counterproductive seeing as Chipchura will have a greater impact on the organization and in the long run might be a better player than Stoll in a few years.

I've been hearing many people throwing around Stolls name for the last few weeks.

A Stoll for Chipchura trade … how would that sound ?

I'd pass but given the circumstance, is it possible ?

If San Jose gets Hossa, they're going to be tough to beat.  The Sharks have been hibernating most of the year.  If they wake up in April, look out!

  3. leafy says:

Hossa or Sundin, I might add.

  4. sconte66 says:

Improbable. Marleau has been placed on the IR. He wouldn't be of value as his groin injury has him out. Thrashers wouldn't take a risk getting a player who won't play while they are pushing for the division…let alone the playoffs.

  5. terry_turbo says:

Lets be honest with ourselves, The leafs blow. Plain and simple.
Now ask yourself why? Crappy defence, little offence and everyone is either too old or too young.

Get rid of tucker, mcBaby, Kabs, Poni-boy, Kubina, Laura-raycroft-tombraider and even the great sunbeam.

trade for quality players and moderate contracts. Plus draft picks so you can leverage them for the years to come. I cant stand to watch anymore HNIC and see the 40 plus year olds on the leafs get spanked and wonder why they cant get it right. You want to win, Follow what Detroit is doing and get better scouts to find these diamonds in the rough.

Trade for Marleau, are you on crack… he's good and all but he is hurt.
Trent hunter?  who's idea is this, next youll say go and get Yashin

Odd: One of the richest teams in the league if not the richest, and you still cant buy a winner.

  6. Kramer says:

Hossa's name spelled backwards is almost obscene.

  7. NHLSlayer says:

Terry, thank you for alleviating eklund as by far the dumbest person on this site.

In a matter or moments, you have shown yourself to have no credibility whatsoever, as you haven't the slightest clue what you are talking about.  First of all, being a rich franchise has NOTHING to do with building a winner, in the new salary cap era you cannot just go out and get who you want, or "buy a winner", as you put it.  Simple mathematics may be too much for you.
Also, can you name me a Maple Leaf who is "40 plus years old"?  You claim to be so tired of tuning in every Saturday night and seeing them, so you must have them all memorized.  Come on, just name 1?

Now, I know that I've used some big words for you, so I'll simplify it to a level even you could understand.

    YOU

    DUMB

    TALKING

    WITHOUT

    THINKING

    SMART

    TALK

    IS

    FOR

    GROWNUPS.

There, now don't you feel better?

  8. terry_turbo says:

Being rich has nothing to do with building a winner….uh Hello.
what do you think they pay the players in , rainbows and lollipops?

The leafs suck and so does your burn on me.

Salary cap has nothing to do with why the leafs are bad, The retarded GM's you guy's hire who go out and over pay for old and injured players is why.

lets break it down for you.

    Lindros….Headache anyone
    Allison…..Another headache
Belfour….Hey coach could i just call in my game today?
Domi……He sucked when we had him as a jet
    Roberts……Where is he now
    Leetch…… old
Peca…..how many games did he acctually play
Tucker…didnt he used to be the fighter on the team HA!

Maybe you cant remeber any of these players due to your grand illusions of a stanley cup for the leafs. But I could go on for days with how not to run a team by following the path of the leafs.

Oh and now you go and bring back paper bag cliff. HAHAHA he tanked your team once before idiot.

    Douche bag!

    this just in

    Leafs pick up
    Ivana Scoragoalov
    Bretlov Hullovich
    and
    Rusty Zamboni

    hahahah assoh

  11. leafy says:

If I didn't know that "RoenickTheGreat" was banned from this site, I'd think your were him.

Experience tells me that idiotic posters like you come and go on a routine basis.  They don't last.  RoenickTheGreat is but the latest example.

  12. terry_turbo says:

    Good one LEAFY

Experience tells me that your probably stuck in some cubical farm with pennants of the leafs all around you. Daydreaming of the leafs coming back this year to take it all in the final game of the playoffs!

wait, when was the last time they acctually made the playoffs?
Or better yet won the division.

come on man, they arent even contenders. Thats being generous. I admit, I hope they become better and quickly. They have so much history in that organization, its a shame they have done nothing with the team. That being said you should acctually read what I posted about the scouts being better and getting better management. There's your problem. This team cant even fire the GM without running it through the media for 3 weeks first. And how hard is it to find a gm, really. they have been looking for awhile now.

How many draft picks have the leafs had in the past 20 years in the first round?

    Fire Peddie

  13. leafy says:

I'll give you good marks for entertainment.  McBaby and Poni-boy, not bad I have to admit.  But "Laura-Raycroft-tombraider", now that's pretty funny.

  14. Steve362 says:

You're both retarded, obviously the leafs do suck this year but you cant just blow up a team and get rid of 8-10 players on the roster.

  15. Peenz says:

Terry Turbo, think about what you are going to say before you type it.
You can’t get rid of half the players you mentioned because they have no trade clauses. This is not NHL 08. I understand this is a website devoted to hockey trade rumors, but come on, post’s these days are becomming more lame then your grandmothers meatloaf. And i dont understand how you think buying one player will make your team great. If you dont know the difference between your ass or a hole in the ground plase dont post worthless crap. the leafs arent good this year because of many reasons. The most obvious being Management. No Direction except down. You gave away so much for old tymer players and if you wish to call them ” Goaltenders ” fergi and mlse dug the grave you are in, not crappy players like Mcbaby, HAL GILL and raycroft. And Kaberle is a top 10 defencemen of the nhl.

  17. terry_turbo says:

    Your swift peeniz,

I understand you cant get rid of a whole team in one swoop. The no trade clause is not set in stone either numb nutz. It is revocable by the player. And dont think that a player might want to be traded. If the deal is good they will consider it.

You should focuss more on reading and less on measuring your Peenz, as i clearly pointed out the management problem like 3 hours ago.

But its the product on the ice that is losing in the standings not the MLSE. You still support crap, even after years of being force fed it.

go back to to leaf island and play with your unicorn

  18. morrissey says:

We don't really need a replacement for Smolinski when Smolinski is in the press box… can Stoll replace Lapierre is the better question…
