The Professor Gives Up His Tenure
The AP is reporting that Igor Larionov, the Professor, has retired from the NHL at the ripe old age of 43. His NHL career spanned 921 games for the Devils, Canucks, Panthers, Sharks and Wings. He won three Cups with the Wings and scored 169 goals and 752 assists. Prior to the NHL, he was a star in the Soviet Elite League. He won two Olympic gold medals in the 1980’s.
His statement to the press was fitting. “When you leave the game, it’s sad,” said Larionov. “It’s time to move on. There are things in my mind that I want to do, but I’m not going to rush into anything.” Larionov never seemed to be in a rush to do anything on the ice with the puck either.
Larionov scored one goal for New Jersey this season. GM Lou Lamerillo had no comment on how he will make up for this loss to the Devil’s offense.
