Wesley would consider Toronto.

The Fourth Period – According to the Toronto Sun, Carolina defenseman Glen Wesley appears to be willing to become a Maple Leaf. “If it arises that Toronto has some interest in me, it is something I am going to look at,” the Hurricanes defenceman said yesterday. “I think for any Canadian kid, to play in Toronto would be a thrill. I think it would be exciting for anyone to put on the Leafs uniform.”

Leafs general manager/coach Pat Quinn would like to add a defenseman. Along with Wesley, the Leafs may look into Bryan Marchment of the San Jose Sharks, Alexei Zhitnik of the Buffalo Sabres and Lyle Odelein of the Chicago Blackhawks.

It would be awesome if Toronto acquires Glen Wesley. Possessing deadly accuracy from the point with both his slapshot and wrist shot, Wesley has been a fixture on the Boston Bruin and Carolina Hurricane power plays throughout his career.

He’s a solid all-around D-man, just what they need. If they trade for him, they will not have to worry about adding a defenseman anymore, but Quinn may want another anyway. If this trade goes through, then they may be done trading, or they could go after a forward. Also, I think Odelein would be a big mistake, he’s isn’t that good defensively, actually you could probably say he’s bad on D.

  2. Sane04 says:

Wesley is prety much all Toronto needs.

    Kaberle Svehla

    McCabe Wesley

    My prediction:

    To Bruins: Wesley

    To Canes: Tim Thomas

Both are UFAs after this season. Both teams play eachother on Tuesday, and the Bruins scouts will be watching Wesley like a hawk. The Canes are looking to dump salary, and Thomas would be an excellent #2 goalie who can play every 3rd or 4th or 5th game.

Bruins fans would welcome Wesley back, he started his carreer in Boston and was an All Star defencman there. O’Connell has a thing about picking up players with ties to the organization. And if Bourque does end up behind the bench… you would have Bourque, Wesley, and Sweeney working togather again.

If O’Connell wants to fire up the Bruins, this could be an excellent scenario. With Raycroft, Hackett, and Shields, Thomas will never break the Bruins roster, even though Ftorek was quoted as calling him “the best goalie in our camp in the last 2 years”. The Canes could sign him for a song, they would be crazy not to do it.

I’d have to disagree with his statement saying

“I think it would be exciting for anyone to put on the Leafs uniform.”

I wouldnt be excited to put on a Leafs uniform.

  5. acebailey says:

Maybe if they moved to a better city like Charlotte or Las Vegas.

  6. jpmac says:

i am not the biggest Toronto Maple Leaf fan…but how in the hell do you consider charlotte or las vegas to be better then toronto..or any other Canadian city. hell a team in the Yukon would get more fans then charlotte or las vegas

  7. WeStSiDe says:

Maybe if you would stop sucking cock and start facing the real world you would know Toronto is a great city, Charlotte got a team re located cuz of no fans.. As far as im concerned im sick of all these american city’s…

  8. stevieY says:

If Tim Thomas is an Unrestricted Free Agent as you mentioned, then the Hurricanes would not make that deal. The Canes would want a draft pick or prospect or something, because they are going to miss the playoffs this season. They won’t be making any trades for UFA’s. It doesn’t make any sense.

  9. acebailey says:

The Canes could trade for Thomas with the contingency that Thomas will sign a 1 or 2 or 3 year deal (whatever). It is my understanding that this happens all of the time. I think the McLarren trade happened like that. But yeah you are right, the Canes wouldn’t do that straight up.

  10. acebailey says:

I was just talking smack trying to see how many homos like the one with the comment below yours I could irritate. I don’t really want those cities in the NHL. Just bored at work.

  11. jerrod79 says:

putting on a leafs uniform is like giving solid nhlers an excuse to whine…

    it’s the refs fault…

    the other team is dirty…

ever since pat burns coached that team they have been a bunch of whiners. even dougie gilmour cried when he was there…now look at him in montreal. he nevers makes excuses. corson, domit, tucker, everyone is always finding excuses for them being lacklustre. the fact is, pat quinn has assembled a good team for the regular season, but they certainly not a stanley cup contender – ottawa and vancouver have those roles. maybe quinn should take note and quit signing guys like mikael renberg, robert reichel and tom fitzgerald.

    go habs go

  12. Sane04 says:

I can see why you’re bad mouthing the Maple Leafs, you Hab fan. First of all… your comment has nothing to do with article. Wow, you’re amazingly stupid… and probably ugly too. By the way, what place in Montreal in… that’s right shut your mouth.

  13. WeStSiDe says:

Montreal are a bunch of Pussys… They are all like under 6 feet lol…

  14. acebailey says:

Even though you called me a fag I gotta agree with you here.

  15. WeStSiDe says:

You reffering to me? If so, I said that in the other post cuz your dissing the city of Toronto, saying Charlotte, L.A. is better..

  16. acebailey says:

I have never been to Toronto. I just knew that comment would get some interesting responses.

  17. WeStSiDe says:

Oh… Well your right, probably still will, lol.. Seriously though, the city isnt bad, it is rated one of the best, but everywhere you go there is always a downside..

  18. bodiddley says:

if he doesn’t have a no trade clause who gives a crap where he would consider playing he goes where he’s dealt.

  19. WeStSiDe says:

He does, he lifts it if he wants to play for that team, that team being Toronto, he doesnt lift it if he doesnt want to..

  20. titans says:

Yea gee it’s too bad Quinn’s too chicken $hit to pull the trigger on even a minor deal like this!

  21. Tony says:

“Possessing deadly accuracy from the point with both his slap shot and wrist shot…”, he only has one goal this year. Is there any Carolina fans out there that can tell us how good he is. I really don’t remember any of the Canes defense from last years playoffs except for Hedican who was a strong skater and Ward who was a alright hitter. I heard rumor’s about Detroit and Colorado being interested in him also but there seems to be alot more better dmen out there. Will Leaf fans really be happy if this is all they get?

  22. mikster says:

Stop…. you’re making this site worse like that.

  23. mikster says:

Leafs whine? The only one who whine are the anti-Leafs fans.

Leafs have a shot at the Cup….who wouldn’t be excited? DUH!

  24. Tradedude says:

TFP is like a maple leaf lover. They consider every one to toronto. They made the kovy to leaf rumor freegin huge ass one. TFP will never have my trust.

  25. acebailey says:

Speaking as a Canes fan lemme say this much: He was making more money than Primeau… and it was for a reason. Wesley is a solid defenceman with alot of hockey sense. He doesn’t shoot alot, but he can play on the power play, but hasn’t been QB a whole lot. He is old, but he has never slowed down. He is the guy that Don Sweeney wishes he was, (sorry Don).

Sweeney is a solid vet, and alot of teams will want him. My money is on Boston though.

  26. acebailey says:

    yeah…… fag.

  27. bodiddley says:

i know how it works , i just didn’t know if he had one or not. i’d bet he’d welcome a trade to all but 3 or 4 teams just to get the hell out of carolina.

  28. mikster says:

    Mr. Retardo….

    Then don’t trust TSN.ca and Sportsnet.ca

TSN.ca reported the same deal (except they changed the chas to $4.5M) with Kovie to Toronto.

Sportsnet was first to report McLaren to Isle’s for Wmpy Isbister.

DO i need a screw driver to get this in your coconut head?!!!!!!!

  29. BabyLeaf says:

Toronto won’t make this trade…cause Pat Quinn doesn’t DO anything!!!

  30. OldTimeHockey_28 says:

Why would you trade a goalie of thomas’ potentian(especially with the way your tending has been playing) for a guy that is fairly old, and won’t even help your team at all. Remember, they aren’t even going to the playoffs, so unless Wesley is a great golfer, I see this trade as useless.

  31. OldTimeHockey_28 says:

The thing is, In canada it’s like the yankee pinstripes.

Kind of the same feeling french-canadians get in putting on the habs jersey.

I know I wouldn’t be excited putting on a Yank’s Jersey, but a leafs jersey would be all I would have to be paid.

  32. OldTimeHockey_28 says:

    Sheesh I love this post!!!!

a good team for the regular season….hahahaahaaa, stop signing Mikael Renberg and such. Hahahahaahah

    Stop it your killing me

But honestly your team has audette, Czerkawski, McKay, Gilmour, Now that’s a laugher!!!!!

  33. OldTimeHockey_28 says:

Actually in 2002 it was voted #1 in the world.

  34. OldTimeHockey_28 says:

    You leaf fans are incredible

ooooooooooooohhhhh,,,Wahhhhhhh, Pat Quinn won’t do anything. WHY???? Because he didn’t want Yushkevich. Whoopy, have any of you watched him play this year. He’s useless! Besides He ripped on the organization and might of pissed a couple players off, why bring in a possible cancer????

Or are you crying about the Kovalev deal. Boo Frickin’ Hoo! I’m sure Pat made an offer, Craig Patrick turned it down. It’s as simple as that. Would you of given up Antropov and Kaberle for Kovalev. If you would then you just killed the team.

Hey I’m a Leafs fan, but I see no need in bashing Quinn right now. There is 7 days left. There are still a number of players out there. Ones that most certainly will be moved. Maybe there’s one in the works, You don’t know if there is, neither do I, but until it absolutely doesn’t happen than shut your sop buckets and quit your crying!

You wonder why your all called whiners!!!!!

  35. Tradedude says:

    ummm..who said i trusted tsn.ca and sportsnet.com. Wtf! this isn’t usual mik.

  36. NYRrule says:

I would rather shove white hot needles through my eyes before putting on a Yankee jersey……or a Leafs jersey for that matter.

  37. OldTimeHockey_28 says:

LOL. I guess Wesley was a leafs fan growing up. A lot of canadian born players out there right now would give the leafs a chance. well some, but the number is dwindling.
