]]> By: AHLoldie http://hockeytraderumors.com/whats-goin-on-in-philly/comment-page-1/#comment-198817 AHLoldie Tue, 31 Oct 2006 20:04:09 +0000 http://localhost/wordpress24/?p=14504#comment-198817 Bob Clarke always built his team in the image of the teams he played on in the 70s.  As I've said before, I lived in Philly and saw many games then.  The atmosphere was more like a NASCAR event than a hockey game.  Everybody wanted blood.  The fans haven't changed.  Even the high school players have the same mentality.  I coached two different times in state championship games that had to be stopped by the referees because of the sportsmanship problem encountered during games with teams from Philly.  One was in the 80s and the second in the early 90s.  I don't think its gotten any better.  You don't dare go to Philadelphia to play the title game.  You either go to Hershey or Pittsburgh.  When I lived there, I didn't realize how bad it was.  I now go back for about 6 games a year.  I also go to Toronto for 12 games a year which is a dream.  The team Clarke put on the ice would be a winner 20 years ago, but not in the new NHL. The League has passed him by.
