Better article this time around. I can see why the Canucks would try the Schneider move, but I can't see the Sharks biting. And personally I kind of hope they don't. Here's why.
I finally love that the Canucks have prospects for almost every position. I wouldn't want to see them start trading them away, even for current needs. I say sign free agents for that, and hang on to your home grown talent. Just look at the prospects we have now Bourdon, Edler, Schneider, Grabner, Raymond, the only real weekness we have for prospects is down the middle at center which is one issue that should definitely be addressed this draft.
I agree that they should sign at least one bigger name free agent, and possibly one smaller move as well. But I just hope they don't start trading away possible stars, even superstars, for current needs.
Defense looks solid, which is what they want in front of Luongo. As far as Schnieder is concerned, I hope he plays for the Moose this next year and gets one year of pro under his belt, after that back up Lui for 2 years, and then possibly take over the reigns as number one if he's ready....if not sign Lui for as long as it takes. With the wave of prospects the Canucks now have coming up it will free up some much needed cap space down the road once they all start filling up roster spots, much like Ottawa, San Jose, Anaheim and Nashville of this year. They all use home grown players and are able to use their entry level contracts to free up cap space to sign much needed free agents.
Anyways, good article, but I hope to Canucks hold on to their up and comers and simply plug some holes by signing a couple key free agents.

Bulis was great in the second half. Yes he took some bad penalties, but in the second half of the year was just as effective as Cowen, and Linden, plus Bulis has the skills to be a top player, and can kill penalties 9if he's not in the box). Like I said I think Linden will retire, and Cowen will get ton's of offers (like I said Rutuu #2). Do you think Cowen is worth 1.0 mil.? I take Bulis for 1.3 mil. over Cowen for 1.0+ mil.

I don't see Schneider being on the Sharks wish list, and with some of their higher end forwards going to free agency or getting big raises (Marleau, Thornton next summer), I don't see the Sharks wanting to move one of their cheaper, yet effective forwards for a goalie.

i think both players would be good fits for this team again. linden would be a great guy to have around for all the young guys that would be coming up. he also showed that he still has a passion for the game in him since he was one of the most consistant players for the team in the playoffs. cowan would be a great fit for the team, he is an energy guy and like cooke can deliver the momentum changing hits. with all the injuries that cooke has had in the last couple years he would be a good guy to have around, and the vancouver fans love him.

i think what you have suggested is probaley one of the more reasonable situations for the team. the only thing i would do diff is i would realy try to solidiffy the back end this year and let the young guys have it out in the forward positions. the reason for this is after next year both nazzy and mo are gone (unless nazzy takes a discount) and would free up a lot of room in the salery cap for the team to go after a couple forwards that can score. if the nucks do anything as far as a signing up front they need to find someone that can play with the sedin's. this should be a priority. they have played with to many diff wingers over the course of there carrers and need some stability. if sykora is the man than good. sign him for a couple years so the sedins know who they are playing with and dont suggest they may play with them like they did with bulis. hell mabey even get there imput on who they would like to play with.
