Calgary Flames fielding plenty of offers for Mike Cammalleri

Mike Cammalleri might want to hold off on purchasing any real estate in Calgary. He is most likely on the move.

With the NHL trade deadline set for March 5, many league executives view the 31-year-old Cammalleri as one of the most attractive options available for teams that want a forward who can make an impact.

Could the Stars look to move Ray Whitney and defenceman Sergei Gonchar.

Bob McKenzie: Two names that you might hear out there are a couple of veterans from the Dallas Stars and maybe those players are actually hoping to hear their names in trade rumours: We’re talking about veteran forward Ray Whitney and defenceman Sergei Gonchar.

Which NHL teams will supply players for trade deadline?

With seven weeks to go before the March 5 NHL trade deadline, USA TODAY Sports columnist Kevin Allen looks at seven teams that might feed the marketplace:

Who the Stars could make available if they’re out of playoff race by trade deadline

Mike, the trade deadline is soon approaching. It looks like the Stars will probably be sellers. Who goes and what can we get in return?

It’s tough, but I like to look at last season. They moved Morrow and Jagr and Roy and ended up getting some nice prospects in Joe Morrow, Cody Payne, Kevin Connauton and Cameron Gaunce. I think Vern Fiddler would definitely be dangled, and I think they would ask if Whitney or Cole want to be traded (they have no-trade clauses). They might even look into Daley or Goligoski if there is a market out there. We’ll have to wait and see.

What will the Senators do to turn things around?

Murray’s hands have been tied trade-wise because of the Senators internal budget, but we heard owner Eugene Melnyk suggest on TSN 1200 last week that he would add money if he was convinced it would make a significant difference.

Connolly likely to be moved – He will be a healthy scratch for the Marlies today

Edmonton Oilers’ Ryan Whitney still in play for trade with Carolina Hurricanes’ Joni Pitkanen lost to injury

If Steve Tambellini’s cell-phone wasn’t ringing shortly after Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Joni Pitkanen suffered a serious leg injury on an icing race for the puck Tuesday night — when is the NHL going to wake up and go to no-touch? — then Jim Rutherford isn’t doing his job.

Knowing Rutherford for some 20 years, he is a pro-active NHL general manager. With Pitkanen, the onetime Oiler D-man,badly hurt (ankle, three months),  then the Hurricanes are going to need Ryan Whitney.

Canucks land Roy, now look for someone to play with Kesler

Having landed the centre they’ve needed to get their team to think attack — instead of cowering in fear and hoping to score a goal or two — the Vancouver Canucks now pursue a quality forward they hope will play with Ryan Kesler.

According to assistant GM Laurence Gilman, Roy slots in as a third line centre playing with Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen and Kesler will centre the second line when he returns with Mason Raymond (if he’s still here) and one would presume either Zack Kassian or new winger.
